Determine
Is collagen hydrolysate (grass fed gelatin) compliant?
Moderators Tom Denham Posted January 4, 2014 Moderators Share Posted January 4, 2014 Taking collagen hydrolysate as a supplement... ehh. Yeah I guess, but it doesn't really approach the spirit of the Whole30. Cook a bunch of bones down and make some bone broth, now that is the spirit of the Whole30. Determine
Thanks Tom. I've never made bone broth but I really want to try.
Vian
Animal bones (preferably roasted already, you don't have to skim scum that way), carrots, onions, celery, optional: garlic, parsley, bay leaves, peppercorns, leeks. Put in a crock pot or large soup pot. Cover with water. Bring to boil, reduce to simmer (or just put in crock pot and turn on to low), cover with lid, simmer for 12 hours for fish bones, 24 hours for chicken bones, 36-48 hours for beef or pork bones. Strain with cheesecloth in a colander and store as you desire. I prefer to let mine cool, then ladle 1 cup portions into ziplock sandwich bags, lay them on a cookie sheet and freeze them.
