lifeisafitstorm
Is pearl tapioca a grain? Is it compliant? I found a recipe I'd love to try to make sugar free, once I'm done with the whole30, but I realized I don't actually know WHAT tapioca is. I'd love some input. Thanks in advance! On Day 9 of my first whole30, and really, really loving it so far.
justmary
Tapioca is a starchy root or tuber-type thing, and generally ok in moderation in a Paleo eating plan, but I don't know if there are any additives in the actual tapioca pearls. I would double-check for soy lecithin and other additives like that. Once you're done with the Whole30, I would imagine that you'd be totally fine eating tapioca occasionally. Robin Strathdee
Also, avoid making pudding with it during your Whole30 - even with compliant ingredients
lifeisafitstorm
Thanks, guys! Definitely bookmarking it for AFTER January. This is the recipe, btw: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2014/01/coconut-tapioca-pudding-with-mango/ I'm a sucker for pretty much anything that woman does. And that just seemed like a vacation in a glass.
anzadel
hahha, I follow that blog too, lots of great stuff. When that post came up in my FB feed this morning I just scrolled on by. Her last post had some sort of crispy bread with cheese. I assumed pudding = dairy. Ive been limiting dairy even before W30. Now that I see it's coconut milk it looks a lot better. Have you had boba drinks before? Those have tapioca pearls, Im not the hugest fan of them. I'd probably cut the amount of those in 1/2 if not skip them altogether and use another thickening agent like tapioca flour.
