UsborneBooksLady
We will be having Easter dinner by my mom's house and I'm already wondering if it's possible to have a ham for Easter dinner that will be Whole 30 compliant, but also something the rest of the family will enjoy?? Typically we have a spiral sliced ham which of course has sugar. Also wondering, is it possible to get a better quality ham than the typical grocery store version with the glaze packet?? Thank you for any tips!
GFChris
Ham is tricky to get sugar free or gluten free from the grocery store. The best ham you can get is from a local farm, if you have that available to you (even then, it still might be cured with sugar or honey). Perhaps consider other protein options for your meal. I made this "turketta" dish for Christmas Eve and it was a HUGE hit.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 9, 2014 Moderators Share Posted April 9, 2014 I don't think you can get ham in the United States that is not cured with sugar. Sorry.

SpinSpin
What about doing a fresh ham instead of a cured ham? Here is one from paleo mom--it does have maple syrup that you would need to leave out of the recipe-- http://www.thepaleomom.com/2013/07/baked-fresh-ham.html Or here is one from Paula Dean, that is pretty much a season salt with soy to hold the seasonings on. It would be very easy to sub out coconut aminos for the soy and use what ever seasonings you would like. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/fresh-ham-recipe.html For me, the important thing is the cooking times--you can change up the flavorings to use what you like best. Brittany Long
What about doing a leg of lamb or something like that instead? We are in the military so we are just having a bbq with friends!
kel_be
We are going to have leg of lamb + ham, I'm opting for the ham. And if we can't do both, I'm going to skip the ham and try to sneak something better on my plate. No matter what happens, I'm going to get a cross examination when dessert hits the table.
