DaNewGirl3083
Prices on coconut oil and ghee are pretty through the roof. I have like 5 mini cans of crisco that I have used on baking (collecting dust now). Can I use it?
missmary
no!!! Crisco is not ok on a whole30. not even close. I would encourage you to read the program guidelines more closely. Maybe you are joking, but seriously? The number one ingredient in crisco is soy. Soy is eliminated during a whole30. Crisco is highly processed. It is nothing like the saturated animal fats it is designed to mimic and will not provide your body with adequate nutrition from fat. Eat real whole foods. For fats that means coconut oil, ghee or clarified butter (make your own, it's much less expensive), rendered fat from well-raised animals (tallow, lard, duck fat, chicken fat, etc.), olive oil, avocado oil, macadamia nut oil, etc. Do not eat crisco. GFChris
Make your own clarified butter from quality (ideally grass fed or pastured) unsalted butter. Some good brands are Kerrygold and Organic Valley. Here are the directions I use: easy peasy. http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2010/03/how-to-clarify-butter-recipe/
Guest Andria
Trader Joe's organic virgin coconut oil is 5.99 for 16 oz Also, find a local farmer or good butcher (my butcher gets their animals from local farmers, quality, pastured, grass fed, etc) and buy some beef tallow. I believe I paid 7.99 for 32 oz
