AndiRN
I have eaten and loved coconut all my life but recently I showed an "allergy" to it on a skin test, along with other tree nuts. What can I use as a substitute for the coconut oil, flour, and milk in the recipes? Any help would be appreciated!
Moderators Tom Denham Posted July 16, 2016 Moderators Share Posted July 16, 2016 Food allergy tests are unreliable. Seriously unreliable. Also, coconut is not a nut. It is a drupe. Unless you are experiencing problems after eating a particular food, I would be skeptical of the testing. We have had a flurry of people asking for substitutes for coconut products on the forum lately. There are no substitutes. If you don't like something or need to avoid something, just pick another recipe. Or make the recipe you like with any other compliant ingredient in that category. However, it will taste different because there are no real substitutes.
Neshama
I have an allergy to coconut that is severe . I'd been looking for alternatives too.
slc_melissa
This link is not to a whole30 site, so some of the substitutions would be considered non compliant, but here are some ideas: http://paleoleap.com/replace-everything-coconut/
