Hi Linda, did you try to google that to find out? I found this: The chayote fruit is used in both raw and cooked forms. When cooked, chayote is usually handled like summer squash, it is generally lightly cooked to retain the crisp flavor.

I eat it as a vegetable. I boil it (peel first and remove the hard middle) and allow it to cool down. I like it best cold out of the refrigerator. Then just season with olive oil, lime, salt, and cilantro. It is also great with olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic, and red onions.
