LisaLulu
I know we're not supposed to have honey, but when I get sick I cough really hard and can't sleep, plus I keep everyone else up. I usually take a teaspoon of honey and it stops my coughing long enough for me to fall asleep. I just came down with whatever nasty cold my kids have, is honey ok in this situation? Robin Strathdee
Officially, no. It's not okay unless it's prescribed by your doc. I know it sounds ridiculous for us to say no to honey as a cough remedy (even when we say "if you absolutely must" to OTC meds), but please understand that it's a slippery slippery slope. LisaLulu
The reason I take it is because I can't take OTC meds- I'm breastfeeding. I don't even like honey, but it does the job. Is there anything else that works?

LisaLulu
Oooh thanks, I think I saw that at the store the other day. I've been trying all sorts of new herbal teas because it's my new go to instead of chocolate when I want to relax and treat myself to something. CRCBN
Throat Coat Tea is frequently recommended: http://traditionalmedicinals.com/products/throat-coat/ You can also do a Google search on Whole30 cold remedies for other options. The package says to consult your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding though, so you may want to consult your doctor since you are nursing. Per Robin, elderberry syrup is a no go, sorry. http://forum.whole9life.com/topic/4689-excedrin/#entry47721 My hunch is because anything 'syrup' is considered a sweetener on a Whole30.
