On day 8 and feeling emotional

Some people do go through this stage, so yes, it's completely normal...

It sounds like you might benefit from some starchy veg - are you including at least a fist sized serving per day?

You're around about the hardest point where many people fall off the wagon, but the starch in the likes of sweet potato, yam, squash, plantains, pumpkins etc should help to stablise your moods/emotions. If you are prone to feeling anxious or depressed you may benefit from a second serving.

It could also be that if you have a history of using food as comfort or to disguise/numb your emotions, that you are simply feeling them all much stronger now that you don't have the food to fall back on? It passes, stick with it, and as jmcbn says, eat some starchy veggies, they help!
