We;ll. camp was kind of a bust, i ate salad until I was sick of it and was able to be completely compliant but then I got some food poisoning and was throwing up all night on Tuesday and had to go home on Wednesday.  Probably some lettuce although the chicken seemed suspect but the other 3 people who got it were vegetarians.  Haven't eaten much since then, still nauseous, tongue is a mess, and my stomach is burning from no food.  I have stuck to banana, applesauce, toast and water.  But the toast was a definite reject today,  Couldn't eat it. I had a fever with this thing too but that is gone.  Just exhausted and nauseous with a  very sore tongue. I am going to try and get some scrambled eggs down soon. I tried a sweet potato yesterday but that really doesnt sound good today.  What a way to lose weight, down to 137 today. My back is starting to act up with all this sitting too.

Some green tea, 1/3 of a fruit smoothie (not tasty for me) and two scrambled eggs so far today.  I am keeping it down and am not very nauseous although my stomach clenches whenever any food goes down.  My tongue is really a mess, too much vomiting and acid going through it.  I am not burping anymore which is great but my head feels like it is full of cotton and my stomach is still burning.  No idea what food caused the poisoning,  we are going back to collect soap at camp tomorrow, maybe I will learn more.   I do feel some regular hunger feelings right now, but I can't think of what I would eat.

Finally recovering, went back to camp and many others were down with this virus.  No one however, seemed to be as sick as me.  I didnt sleep last night, too many decisions to make about things but have resolved it all.  I got down most of a smoothie this morning but couldnt drink my green tea.  I had a lara bar and a banana, almonds and carrots for lunch.  Nothing really sounds good except sweet things like fruit and bread.  I am going to choke down a chicken salad tonight and hope that my stomach continues to behave and doesnt clench up like it has been doing.  I am driving into town tomorrow for a meeting and I am hoping I feel good enough to do it alone, J has driven me and taken care of me enough and really needs a break.

Mostly able to eat now, food tastes good again although I still get a stomach clench if I eat more than a few bites.  But the acid stomach has really not gone away.  Up at 5 today because my stomach was burning and I was hungry.  I only ate a small salad last night so it could just be hunger but I took a prilosec yesterday morning and an extra before bed.  I am going to try some fermented vegetables and drinking lots of water today but I think I may have a stomach bug, H. Pylori or something, the prilosec is not working and that has never happened before. Still feeling sort of hollowed out, and probably still losing weight.  I definitely will need some new pants and shorts if this keeps up, can't keep them up.  I had some scrambled eggs with veggies for lunch yesterday and that was the first time I could really taste and it tasted so good.  I think I need to eat mostly cooked veggies to digest a little easier but that is hard when it is so hot.  I think I will thaw salmon today and have roasted potatoes and veggies on the grill.  We are talking about getting up high today on the pass and doing some hiking.  We will miss the last yoga though but this is the only free day.  Tomorrow is doctors and a gig, then packing and driving over.

Went to the doctor and he put me on double prilosec for a month and carafate and a low residue diet although I doubt I can follow it without totally messing up everything else in my body.  No nuts, only a few types of veggies, no coconut products, and few fruits.  That would almost impossible, and the things that I am supposed to eat, white toast and rice, lots of dairy, etc.  I will try to cut back on fiber stuff but I think I will have to rely on the carafate to fix my stomach.  Already feeling better after 3 doses of carafate.

Already feeling better although I forgot the prilosec, probably subconsciously not wanting to take it.  I will take it today and see if my tongue feels better but I am no longer nauseous this morning after my tea.  It is difficult to figure out when to get the carafate in, I hour before a meal means that I can't snack at all for 3 hours, including the two hours after that I am not supposed to eat.  And I have to have a3 hour window for my vitamins and my nighttime drugs and the prilosec. There is not much time left but it does seem to be working.  Tried to comply mostly with LRD yesterday, still had some almond butter and peppers and zukes and strawberries.  i will try to eat well today but we will be on the road and it is difficult.  Those carrots and almond butter call to me when traveling.

Feeling much better, may slow down the prilosec and food does not seem to be much of a problem anymore.  I will still try to eat more cooked and less raw veggies.  I stuffed down some delicious shish kebob yesterday for lunch and after dinner that was left over from the night before.  I just felt really hungry for the first time in a week or more.  I did eat a salad at dinner without too many consequences.  I had terrible restless leg last night though and had to take an extra mirapex after the long drive and a few sips of white wine that I just took to be polite!  No more will I allow that.  Still tired today after a day on the water and dealing with relatives.

Ah, a good nights sleep!  went right to sleep after watching game and slept all night until 6 am.  No stomach pain, I did get up in the night and took the carafate so I could get it in.  No prilosec yesterday, no burning but a goodly stomach ache after dinner, I had some beans that could possibly be the culprit, I think I will stay away from all legumes, not just pb.  It could be being at a big family dinner but I don't think there was anything else out of the ordinary, some bean and white rice chips perhaps.  No aches this morning though.

Woke up at 5 and no amount of wishing would put me back to sleep.  Drinking my tea right now after reading for an hour in bed, trying to get that sleepiness back but no deal.  Oh well, perhaps I can get a nap this afternoon.  I took some carafate in the middle of the night so no stomach burning just awake.  I feel pretty good.  No extra aches and pains despite the possible allergens in the Thai food chicken curry and pad thai that I had at the game and the gluten free beer I had last night.  The beer did make me incredibly sleepy, I really had to work to get up and take a walk after my salad dinner.  I just need to get through today and we will be able to break loose tomorrow and get a hike in.  I need to do my yoga this morning, no way around it if I want to keep the pain down.  A massage tomorrow should help.

Despite taking my Mirapex on time, my legs were really restless last evening after dinner with family.  Really hard to deal with in a group setting where everyone is sitting around.  I did have a gluten free beer before dinner and ate a small piece of garlic bread with dinner.  Everything else was compliant but that has not caused that level of pain before.  I was with a part of the family that can't walk well all afternoon so we stood around a lot looking at beautiful gardens and sat around watching a video in the morning.  I did do some of my yoga and took a brisk walk early but not as energetically as usual.  Flat ground and a relative that didn't walk quite as fast as I wanted.  I need to get more aerobic today for at least  a little while despite the rain and family. I do have a massage at 10 with my favorite masseuse so that i am looking forward to.  I got up in the night because my whole body was vibrating, don't know why but that has happened sometimes lately.  I took some Tylenol and that put me back to sleep.  I did eat about 10 peanuts, they were just there so I thought I would try it again.  So far, no pain but definitely stuffed up, it could be this wretched weather.  It was 92 last year on the fourth and 62 this year.  I don't know which one I hate worst.

Going to try weaning off of the prilosec and carafate and going mostly compliant and trying aloe juice, ginger, and camomile tea.  I really don't want to have to go low residue, it is just too restrictive of the foods that I love and that keep me whole and healthy.  I will try removing onions along with the tomatoes and citrus and lowering the fats and fiber.  I might continue eating a little white rice and sourdough bread. I seem to have survived the 10 peanuts with no pain so the peanut allergy is not at the tiny level, it might just be the aflotoxins in some peanuts.  I won't eat peanuts much but perhaps I don't have to be quite so careful of peanut contamination.  Looking forward to home food today, cooking some sweet potatoes and making chicken soup.  It is really cold and foggy for July and I don't see a big change coming up soon so we may have to forgo the trailer trip, I don't really enjoy camping in the cold and wet.

The ginger seems to be very helpful for all the acid reflux symptoms.  I am eating candied ginger and washing off the excess sugar, still candy but less so and it really works.  Stopped the prilosec and down to two doses of carafate.  And despite the forays into wheat and other grains and a few GF beers and wines over the holiday, I still weigh 137, pretty amazing.  I am getting my hair cut short today, I promised myself I would do it if I stayed in the 130s.  I am hoping however that going back mostly compliant will help my energy which has been very low since the norovirus.  I can go to sleep at a moments notice anytime during the day.  However, I did sleep better the last two nights at home so perhaps I will get more energy from that.  Back to kombucha last night and I sure can see the difference in my RLS.

Tried one mirapex last night after arriving late from a dance, I went to sleep but woke up a few hours later with my whole body vibrating.  I did manage to go back to sleep but it was a little lighter that usual and I woke up at 6 even though I went to bed at about one.  I had a stomach, gas, ache last night after eating turkey meatloaf at the local health food and stir fried veggies.  IT went away after the dance, I did eat chocolate too to keep me awake for the dance and the drive home.  I am still using ginger and it has a great effect on my tongue and stomach acid.

Bloated stomach again today.  I have lost a little weight lately, down to 137 but I don't feel it because of the bloating.  Still low energy but awake at 5 today after a great 5+ hours of sleep, but that was it.  I was up but still very tired, I will have to take a nap today.  I am not sure why my stomach is bloated, I ate regular food yesterday, chicken soup for lunch and a chicken salad for dinner.

Feeling way better today, I had a lot more energy yesterday for hiking, actually wanted to speed up when going up the hill.  I got almost 7 hours of sleep after an initial block of 5 hours, I almost didnt go back to sleep because I felt so good about 5 hours without waking.  I tried not taking baclofen at night but laid awake staring and had to take it.  My stomach was telling me it was hungry by 5 am but managed to go back to sleep anyway.  Prepping for a trailer trip today, although there is one little glitch but I think we will get out tomorrow.  Depends on the mechanic.  Doing without most starches these days, haven't made sweet potatoes for days, i need to cook some today.  I have been having some fruit for breakfast and a little for lunch.

Only took one baclofen last night, no pain but more interrupted sleep.  It will be back to two tonight.  The ginger is still mostly working to keep the stomach burning at bay but still waking up at 5 hungry.  I didnt have a banana and almond butter snack last night and did have a corn tortilla for lunch, the only non compliant grain.  I ate some dairy but not a lot and no alcohol.  Much more energy walking up the hill yesterday, I didnt have to stop or slow down and no throat pain left from the norovirus.  Driving my guests up to the trail this morning and then finishing packing for when H brings the trailer back from the shop.  We are heading out for a camping trip for couple weeks and are moving to a warmer area as the weather is really cool and cloudy and I don't want to get up too high.

  • 2 weeks later...

Big, long trip into the mountains for past couple of weeks with no internet. It was hard at first but I got used to not having my screen.  I got a few minutes every few days when we were moving camps.  I actually hiked 12 miles and gained 2000 feet elevation to Dollar Pass from the Tenderfoot trailhead on the last day. The views were spectacular.  Managed to stay somewhat compliant but did eat sandwiches the last few days.  It was just too hard to find easy things to make without an oven and with little time and space.  I bought a grill today so on our next trip I can grill chicken and fish and potatoes so I have more choices.  I mostly survived with little pain and slept quite well most nights.  Pretty amazingly different from my trips the last few years pre-Whole 30.  I just feel so much better.  I realized that I have spent only a couple hundred dollars on copays this year, instead of the almost 3000 dollars last year for pt, MRIs, massages, specialists, drugs, etc. If I spend a little more on better food, that still is spending a lot less.

Tried the new Mirapex pill and I think the problem with it is that it is harder to digest, a harder pill, and takes longer to kick in so i really need to take it before 7 pm.  It worked fine after about 3 hours and I slept well after that, a little nausea though and a slight cough this morning.  Despite the beer and small amount of bread, I lost two more pounds, down at 135 this morning.  I don't really feel it though although looking in the mirror it shows.  Stayed mostly compliant yesterday, just my cream and yogurt but no grains.  I was hungry at night though and had a banana and almond butter.  That could have caused the nausea.  I need to make sure that I eat enough at dinner.

Not great sleep last night.  The house was hot despite the air conditioner and a thunderstorm woke me up in the early morn so I had to get up and close the trailer windows and some house windows.  Still feeling pretty good despite that. I am trying to keep away from all grains but I do eat some rice crackers.  Hoping to lose the bloated belly I got on our trip from eating a little wheat and beer, although I did lose some more weight. I made some baby potatoes last night on the grill so I will use those instead of grains for my carbs.  That works so well in hot weather.  Just wrap a few in tin foil, add a little olive oil, and grill on the lowest heat.

Feeling pretty good today but lately lots of allergy symptoms, stuffed up, runny nose and eyes and not sure what to do.  My diet is working great, although I think I lost some more weight because I was so cold last night on a hot night.  I need a little more fat although I ate veggies with lots of olive oil at lunch and chicken with olive oil and had 1/2 an avocado at dinner with my veggies and cheese. I did have a piece of sourdough bread.

My legs were truly awful last night, totally seized up and I was unable to loosen them.  I don't know what caused it, not enough water, no salt, beans (had a dinner of black beans and no other protein), cumulative alcohol, new prescription of mirapex that maybe isn't as  strong, walking slowly and no fast hike with a guest that walks slow?  I don't know but I need to stop the beer at night and drink kombucha instead.  I need to take salt tablets every day and I need to make sure my legs get some good fast exercise even though my guest is so slow.  I also ate in the nighttime when I got up to take a third mirapex, had a banana and almond butter and I had a little bit of sourdough before bed.  I am getting a little belly from the beer and bread too, I can only eat that when I am really pushing the exercise on our trips.  I only got about 6 hours of sleep last night and every time I woke up, my legs were clenched even with the extra mirapex.  I did get 4 hours from 11 to 3 without waking, but the rest was pretty restless.  I also need to put my phone away and read a paper book at night.  Going up to Hall Mt. today but it is sort of hot and may be walking too slow for a benefit to my legs.

No alcohol last night and much better sleep with no restless leg.  I was awake from about 2:30-3:30 and finally took a little ginger and an egg and some tylenol to go back to sleep.  Great sun sauce with sub almond butter with our shish kebob last night.  I did eat some rice and had a little bloating, hard to not eat with shish kebob.  Again a slow walk with lots of stops with my visitor, I never really imagined that one would need to rest every 10 minutes just to  hike up a hill,  and to have to have sips of water every ten minutes.  I don't know what this is doing to my fitness level, just when I begin to feel like I am getting a burn, we have to stop!

Leaving for a trip to the coast today.  About 4 weeks in the trailer, unfortunately the weather for the first few days looks pretty miserable.  And it is beautiful here with blue skies and sunshine and not too hot.  Oh well, I might not have gone if we didn't have to drop a friend off.  Goes to show, best laid plans.  Anyway, still doing pretty well, except for my usual cream and yogurt at breakfast and occasional rice crackers.  Still using very little sugar and grains and feeling pretty good although I was a little bloated after a couple days of drinking a gluten free beer.  It all went away after I went back to kombucha.  I will do the best I can on the road.  At least on this trip, I will have internet and electricity so I will be able to keep in touch with people.  Smoothie for breakfast this morning and then, who knows!

Ate a starbucks panini yesterday with some bloating but no real ill effects.  Great dinner of leftover salmon, chicken and potatoes with salad and sun sauce.  Took an Ambien to sleep as we were in a motel room with 3 and slept great until about 3:30 then in and out until 6:30.  Cloudy this morning, I think this is the beginning of the not so great weather.  We might have to head back across the mountains to stay warm for a while.  WE will be on the coast for at least a couple days with some iffy weather.  Regular smoothie for breakfast today.
