ALCAT Food Allergy and Sensitivity Testing

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, so Mods, please move this topic if need be.   ^_^

I've done a few Whole30s where I felt maybe I was having a reaction to eggs or avocado or something else because I ate them more during those 30 days.  So I'm considering doing the ALCAT, as recommended by my performance health chiropractor, to see if I should be avoiding things other than the norm.

Has anyone had the ALCAT or another food allergy and sensitivity test done?  If so, was it worth it?  Did you learn more beyond what the W30 taught you?

See the Wikipedia article on ALCAT - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALCAT_test

I am sure your chiropractor is sincere and a good person, but these tests are worthless.

The gold-standard test for food allergies and sensitivity is .... eliminating the item and then reintroducing it under controlled conditions to see how you respond... just as we coach you to do through the Whole30. I understand that having some blood drawn and then getting a report would be nice, but the information required to make useful judgments is not located just in the blood. The information is spread around your body. So save your money. And even if you don't care about the money, the results are bogus.

Thank you, Tom!  It's good to hear this from you!  As I dig around a bit more, this is the answer I keep seeing.   ;)

A lot of providers trust the marketing that comes with these services. Some are just a bit vague and others are downright proven to be wrong.

These particular tests have actually been listed on Quackwatch by name, which is really not a good sign http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/Tests/allergytests.html

Also, from some prices I saw, save your money for real tests! :o
