penotti
I've read this a few times already, also in the guidelines, but i can't seem to find the reason why you should not have any fruits or carby veggies as a pre-workout meal? Please help, i'm confused!
Renee Lee
Carb's aren't necessarily BAD preworkout, protein and fat is just better. Eating protein and fat peri workout, signals glucagon, which is basically the hormone opposite to insulin. Insulin stuffs things into cells for later use; glucagon tells cells that we're going to use that stuff soon. So it's just priming your body to access your energy stores in the next couple of hours. Carbs don't cause a glucagon response really. they're all about insulin.

katyroq
Interesting...I was wondering about this too. I usually eat a banana pre-workout, and I did yesterday and I was good for about 1 mi run, and then I could tell my body needed to "switch" energy sources but it was having a lot of trouble... penotti
Thanks for the explanation Renee! I was just worried I was doing a very non-compliant whole30 thing... Still experimenting with this, yesterday I had protein & fat before a wod and it went well, but can't really decide yet which combination works best for me.
