EmKat
I bought prosciutto today from Trader Joe's, and the ingredients say: Pork, salt. I don't see any nitrates in the ingredients but then again it doesn't specify nitrate-free. What am I doing with this delicious savory treat? Go or no-go? Is this to be treated like bacon? Moderators Tom Denham Posted February 8, 2013 Moderators Share Posted February 8, 2013 Salt and pork is okay, so enjoy your prosciutto! It doesn't work just like bacon, but I use it to add meaty flavor to things where I might use bacon if I could find some without sugar.
Derval
If you put it in the microwave it goes all hard & crispy
Kate File
I eat a lot of prosciutto on a Whole 30! If it is supermarket quality I fry it and eat it crispy. But I have found an amazing Italian brand, Principe Fresco, prosciutto di San Daniele and it is so amazing I just eat it fresh. Very handy that way too.
