pjena
The weekend was fun. I enjoyed my walk/pedi/yoga time. We had a nice visit with my parents. My dad had a nice birthday party. I had 2 glasses of wine Saturday night with my mom and then did have dessert at the party. It was homemade blueberry cheesecake bars made with fresh picked blueberries. It was worth it. So, that's 4 of my 5. I need to be strong if I want to make my goal. I know I'll have cookies when we go to the state fair, so that will be my 5th and last dessert before my CA trip. (though, frankly, if something worth it comes up and I end up with 6 desserts in 117 days, I won't be mad at myself. Today is NS101! That's only 4 desserts in over 100 days. (3 were worth it) For me with my huge sweet tooth, that is pretty amazing. I am, however, feeling myself tire of it. I'm letting little "slips" through, like licking chocolate off my finger when making bars or licking frosting off my finger when cutting cake. I'm not counting those because, otherwise, I'd throw the whole thing, but I would like to knock that behavior off. I'm like a child trying to see how far I can push the boundary. I need to regroup and power through to the end and end on a strong note. I plan to start over after my trip. If I start the day after Labor Day (my birthday!) and go through the 31st of December, that's 120 days. 5 might be pushing it with all of the holidays in there, but I want to do something to keep the sweets to worth it only sweets. I'll figure out my rules - maybe 5 plus dessert on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas night? Anyway, super busy week this week. I have my sister staying with us, which just adds a touch more complexity. I hope I can still fit in some yoga. I think I'll need it.
pjena
Ugh. I had cabbage last night and am now all bloated. It's sad. But, it tasted good. I have way too many veggies this week. Even for me. I ended up chopping the zucchini and broccoli and freezing it for fall soups. There was just no way we'd eat it all without a zucchini / AB binge, which I do not need. I was hit with absolute panic yesterday that summer is over, school is starting, I have 2 weeks before I have to have my kids ready for school, packed for a week with my parents and camping and me packed for CA and my kitchen/laundry room/bathroom packed up for the remodel and I am running out of time!!!!!! Ack! I went to yoga and calmed down. It's fine. I have plenty of time. Summer isn't over. Breathe!
Physibeth
I totally get that panic Jen. Mine comes from all the teaching I'm doing right now and the cleaning/organizing that needs to be done but it is the same sort of thing. I get so overwhelmed that I don't know where to start. Breathe and attack one thing at a time. Me too.
pjena
Confession time: I was bloated and not hungry most of yesterday. I blame cabbage. I had a small dinner. FInally, after yoga, I felt normal and hungry. Did exercise my W30 muscles and make a mini meal? No. I had a banana and AB because I had a banana that needed to be eaten (great reason, I know). Then, I had some of the popcorn with butter I made for the kids even though buttered popcorn makes my tummy feel icky. Then, I had some root veg chips I was getting out for kid lunches. Ugh. Bad binge behavior. But, on the plus side, it wasn't sweets. I didn't have any sugar in that whole deal. So, yay, I guess. Moving on. Today will be a normal day. I need to get my calm back. It slipped after the cabin. Better than falling off a cliff like last year, but still. I can get it back. I want to feel good when I go on my birthday trip. I need to keep my eye on that prize. Physibeth
Eye on the prize...yup me too. I've been reverting to some of that binge behavior the past few days too. I know it is because I haven't been having balanced enough meals. We can do this!
pjena
Yesterday was not a normal day. I had wine with dinner. I had a rough end of the work day and was making risotto and so decided to have a glass of wine. It was lovely. But, now I am paying the price with feeling tired and bloated and not tip top. It'll pass. Today, though, I am determined to make a normal eating day. I feel like my brain might just be tired of being diligent all the time. I'm having trouble with more little slips that didn't even occur to me for months. I think vacation will be good. Just don't worry about it for a few days and then hopefully be refreshed enough to start up again. It really hasn't felt hard at all. Until now. pjena
Yesterday was normal. No wine. No snack attack. That felt good. The weekend should be uneventful. Yoga. Errands (school supplies, school shoes, school hair cuts - yikes!). Packing up for the remodel. Food should be calm and normal. That's the goal! Want to know something funny. I still browse all my food blogs - Paleo and not. And I still bookmark all kinds of delicious looking sweets. I just never make them. And I probably will never make 99% of them. It's kind of food porn, I guess. Or maybe resisting the idea that this change is permanent. I think over time, as I continue to work on avoiding sugar and snacking and overeating and all that, I will probably lessen the food porn. And maybe the scale. It'll come in time. For now, I'm just happy to say I have had 4 desserts in 105 days! And I can't remember the last time I weighed, measured or counted calories. All good stuff. Moderators LadyM Posted August 15, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 15, 2014 Woot to all your victories! If it's any consolation, I do the same thing with the paleo dessert recipes. I figure I might make one or two three times a year. I never was much of a baker, though.
melbournegirl
I have eggs and mashed sweet potato and blueberries mixed and cooked in a bowl in the microwave for breakfast sometimes, especially when I'm feeling off colour. I guess it's sort of a pudding but then again it doesn't seem much different to the soup and ground meat I also mix into a bowl and microwave for breakfast. This morning I had a leftover lettuce leaf wrap for breakfast. I like how this food has become normal fair. I've stopped looking for swypo food... Although some of what I eat might be, the intent isn't there any more. I've been thinking for months now that I could make an almond meal pie crust and pizza base that I made a year ago for something different bu it hasn't progressed! pjena
Yeah, swypo just seems like too much work. LOL It's easier to just eat food. That apparently doesn't stop me from looking, though. I think my laziness is what is saving me. I actually bought a tortilla press to try some of the paleo tortilla recipes that are out there, but I have yet to use it. I have to do it at least once to justify the purchase, I guess. It just seems easier to skip it. No yoga yesterday. A 1 hr contractor meeting became 2 and a half! We got a lot accomplished, but it meant I couldn't make yoga. I'll go today.
Moderators LadyM Posted August 16, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 16, 2014 Enjoy yoga! I'd be tempted by a tortilla press, too. One of my bookmarked recipes is this, for the tex-mex lover in me: http://slimpalate.com/cauliflower-tortillas-paleo-grain-free-gluten-free/
pjena
The weekend was good. I finished school supplies and school shoe shopping, but didn't get to school haircuts because of a scheduling miscommunication. We'll have to fit that in this week. I also got through my whole box of veggies - everything is washed, chopped and ready to eat. Actually, a lot of it is gone! We had a veggie filled weekend. I roasted a whole chicken with tomatoes, olives, onions, artichokes and zucchini for dinner Sat night. The leftovers are already mixed with hm mayo, celery, carrots, scallions, raisins, cashews and herbs for chicken salad tomorrow night. I crock potted pheasants with cabbage, potatoes, celery, onion and dill for dinner last night. Those leftovers will feed husband for a few lunches. I have pork chops marinating in a cilantro orange marinade for tonight to go with green beans. We've eaten all the cucumbers. I think all I have left unplanned for is the collards, which I'll eat for breakfast, and some chopped carrots and zucchini that the kids can munch for lunches. Phew! My 10yo was in a cooking mood yesterday so he made up his own salsa from veggies we were growing, supplemented with some CSA veggies. It's not bad. Maybe a little heavy on the onion, though. Then, we made a small jar of quick pickles. Hopefully, those will turn out. I love that he likes to cook. I got in two yoga sessions and started reading Death by Food Pyramid. Good relaxing time. Have a great week!
Moderators LadyM Posted August 18, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 18, 2014 Very impressive, Jen! You are an inspired machine in the kitchen! I cannot imagine being responsible for feeding all those humans, all male, to boot. So cute that your son made salsa. Love it.
pjena
Not only feeding male humans, but male humans who would rather eat spaghettios and macaroni and cheese.
Physibeth
Do you have a recipe for the pork chops? I have some defrosted and those sounds yummy! Great job using up all those veggies! I bow down to you!
pjena
Again with the Princess Bride quote (kind of) I found it online by searching for cilantro pork chops. It's not W30. I blended a small onion, garlic, cilantro, OJ and BBQ sauce. I'd leave out the BBQ sauce next time (then it would be W30). I think it's going to overpower it. I'd probably add a little olive oil instead next time. Then, the boys could add BBQ sauce to dip later, if they wanted. They are marinating today and I'll grill them tonight. SaraRuns
That was quite a weekend of productivity! So much accomplished. I haven't cooked like that in a long time, we've been grilling. I like grilling, but we never end up with leftovers, or not much. Hopefully the Fall will inspire me to start doing some batch cooking. Glad you got in some yoga time. Hope the week went well with your sister visiting. My son starts school next week, but my nephew will be in town staying with my parents, as he doesn't start until after Labor Day. I'm sure we'll be having him for some sleepovers. He's an easy guest, but it does take a bit more effort to get another child out the door. I think I'm pretending to myself that summer isn't quite over yet, but I need to get on the ball with getting things ready for that first day! Keep your eye on the prize, you are so close to going into your vacation the way you planned. You've got this! And I'm so impressed with your no sweets, I know that was so tough for you. Love that your son cooks, I try to get my son interested, but just can't tempt him.
pjena
Just reminding myself why I like to eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day. I know it will keep me full until the next meal and I know it won't make my tummy wonky. I got Whole Foods hot bar for lunch. It's my treat when I have to go down there to stock up on 10yo's dairy free cheese and dairy free / soy free "butter". I didn't have anything that I know irritates me, but I feel icky. Likely I ate too much (my eyes are bigger than my stomach there!) and likely some oils or what not that maybe don't agree. It was yummy, but not worth it. Plus, it's expensive. Salad with tuna and avocado feels much better, even if it does get boring. I won't be surprised if I'm starving well before dinner, too.

Moderators LadyM Posted August 19, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 19, 2014 I lovehate WF for all those reasons. The good news is you're just a meal or a day away from feeling better!
pjena
Tummy was better by dinner. But, today I'm bloated and my weight is way up. Sigh. I'm sure I'll be back to normal tomorrow. You'd think WF would be a good option. Guess not. Yoga last night was great. I always love a good class. The pork chops were ok. I don't think I could taste the marinade much. But, I'm not a meat lover, so it all just tastes like meat. And, with that, I'm done cooking for the week! I have enough leftovers to feed us for the rest of the week. Yay!
Moderators LadyM Posted August 19, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 19, 2014 WF douses everything in canola oil. Do you think that's what did it? It's so funny to me that you don't like meat. Still. And yet you carry on paleo-style. That's some will!
SaraRuns
Maybe high sodium in prepared things? Anyway, I'm sure you are right and will be right back to normal tomorrow or the next day. Lots of water! I get tired of the taste of meat sometimes. And a lot of my go tos for flavoring are no longer go tos, stir fry sauce - sugar, etc. And I'm not great at preparing sauces ahead. Maybe that is something that would help me/you? I decided to go veggie at lunch for awhile, I'm having beans as protein, eggs for breakfast, and some kind of meat at dinner.
