Danielle Rutherford
Hi everyone, I am on day 22 today and while I am feeling great for the most part, I am sad to report my shoulder pain hasn't improved much. About 8 months ago I started having pain in the my left shoulder out of the blue. I noticed it came on after going way off the rails after my first Whole30. So I was suspicious it might be due to diet causing the inflammation. I had no falls, injury, etc. It just seemed to come on one day. So as I'm coming to the last stretch in this second round of Whole30, I'm sad to see I'm not seeing much if any improvement. Do you think I need more time? My next step is seeing a doctor and getting a scan. I'm only 28, so I feel like I shouldn't have this pain for no reason and it's limiting my ability to do upper body exercise. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated! Danielle p.s. I do want to add my shoulder area pops and cracks when I reach up high or rotate. No sharp pains though, just an overall achey feeling and soreness. So maybe a doctor is in order?
Robin Strathdee
Hi Danielle, While I can't diagnose your problem, I can share my experience. I had something very similar happen to me last year and I've been working to resolve it since then. There is no specific injury I can pinpoint, and my chiropractor's best guess is that is was small amounts of injury repeatedly. Eating Whole30-style will definitely help keep systemic inflammation at bay, but I'd recommend getting to a chiropractor, physical therapist or a doc to get it looked at,
Moderators Tom Denham Posted January 27, 2014 Moderators Share Posted January 27, 2014 I developed a painful shoulder without noticing it being associated with any particular event or activity. I eat Whole30-style all the time and was participating in Iyengar yoga multiple times per week. My yoga teacher nagged me into seeing an orthopedic surgeon when it did not resolve after a few months. The doctor said I had adhesive capsulitis and said I needed physical therapy. The physical therapist stretched me in ways that were too painful for me to do myself in yoga. I got better after about 4 weeks of work, not perfect, just better. Food cannot explain or fix some things that happen.

I've tried very conservative more holistic treatments thus far, acupuncture and a holistic osteopath. I think I may need to see an orthopedic specialist to get it checked out more throughly. I will keep you posted!
annabel
Ooh, I just realised that my joints haven't been cracking and popping recently. If you've been having shoulder pain for the last 8 months, even if it is food related 22 days probably isn't enough to fix it I'd definitely see a doctor of some sort though.
