LillyMarrero
I was wondering if I can use Coconut butter. I also bought lactose free butter but have not been able to find Ghee. Help!
JulieP757
As long as there aren't non-compliant ingredients in it, you can have coconut butter. I've never heard of lactose free butter and I'm not sure if that is allowed.
JulieP757
Lilly - what's the brand of the butter?
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted October 17, 2016 Moderators Share Posted October 17, 2016 Coconut butter should contain nothing but coconut, maybe some coconut oil added -- it's just coconut that's been ground until it forms a paste, similar to almond butter or peanut butter. If that's what you have, it's fine. As Julie said, you'll need to look at the ingredients and see what is in the lactose free butter, but I'm skeptical that there's such a thing out there that is whole30 compliant. If you can't find ghee, you can use other cooking oils instead, like coconut or olive oil. Or you can make your own ghee pretty easily. Here's a really simple recipe that uses a crockpot, but if you prefer to do it on the stove or in the oven, there are instructions online for either of those, just Google it. http://www.primallyinspired.com/ghee-in-the-crockpot/

Administrators ladyshanny Posted October 20, 2016 Administrators Share Posted October 20, 2016 Ghee from a store will be fine. In order to call it "ghee", it has to have the milk solids removed.
laura_juggles
Coconut butter wouldn't be for cooking. It's made to be another nut butter like almond or cashew butter. If you're looking for something to cook with, you'd want coconut oil. Lactose free butter would still be dairy unless you'd clarified it.
SarahLittle101
I have found Ghee at Indian stores. There are tons of spices and half a dozen or more Ghee options. I was super nervous about going in, but now I'm almost a regular!!
