    Meal Template and yogurt

Hi! Is an egg and chicken sausage with tons of pepper, onions, garlic, and basil. Plus a compliant yogurt with a tsp of ground flax seed a good meal? Everything has compliant ingredients. I only ate some of the yogurt with flax and only ate it because I was having bathroom problems. I did not eat it as a treat or to replace my meal and was not trying to recreatea treat. I also generally would not eat this.

@Elizabeth33 thanks for the check in - it's quiet here, but hopefully everyone is rocking it! I'm hanging in there - it's been a demanding time at work, and yesterday I under ate, but today I'll do better. I've snacked on Rx bars only a couple of times, and I'm feeling slimmer. More notably, no allergy symptoms - win! Onward! @Pipi, @megbeveridge how are you ladies doing?

    Restarting/Vent

I'm sorry you're finding it so challenging, and especially over special family holidays it can be rough. Here are some strategies that I've used. (Also, I'm single, no kid, so I'm not cooking for anyone else.) Are you trying to have your kid also be whole 30 (it might be too challenging at this point.)? What are your goals/motivation for doing the Whole30? Keep those in mind. If you make soup, make some extra and freeze it for future meals. Same with casseroles/egg bakes type thing. I don't suffer from food boredom and I don't need something new everyday, so I'm a huge leftover fan. I'll often roast a tray of veggies on my top oven tray, bake a tray of meatballs at the same time on my bottom oven tray. While eating those for dinner, I'll have two more trays going for leftovers. One time cooking, multiple meals. Depending on grocery stores in your area, rotisserie chickens can be available with only compliant ingredients, but watch your labels. Your meals don't have to be instagram-worthy or even look like someone else's idea of a complete meal. It also depends on what type of resources you have at work/home, but assuming a freezer and microwave: A package of frozen vegetables, some coconut milk, some canned chicken or salmon: Microwave for 5 minutes, add salt and pepper: Easy delicious soup! I've done some sauteed onions, add a can of diced tomatoes and a can of tuna, simmer until hot: Easy meal. Can top with some olives. Things I often use for traveling, no refrigeration or prep: package or can of salmon, some baby foods of sweet potato puree. (Ideal? No. Do-able? Yes.) Yes, rotisserie and canned foods can be more expensive, but they are far less expensive than dining out. Always read labels! Somewhere along the way I bookmarked this thread: https://forum.whole30.com/topic/53037-30-meal-prep-for-5-breakfasts-and-5-lunches-in-45-minutes/?tab=comments#comment-483813 Good luck!
  5. Today
  6. Ladyshanny, thank you for this note. This is my 2nd reintroduction, the first I did as Fast, starting with non gluten alcohol. Sugar dragon won and I learned almost nothing. This time I started with fast roll out minus alcohol, soybeans and oils outside of whole 30 compliant ones. Now starting slow roll with my suspicions only tested when absolutely necessary and very very worth it. So I'm all in for a modified w30!
  7. It was just under 6 miles and included 37 flights of stairs! It sounds like you kicked butt on your work marathon; congratulations. 16 days already! Yep, I'm back on track, too. Monday evening I got some stuff thrown together for my breakfasts and we've been eating off of the leftover smoked pork with coleslaw yesterday and broccoli today except I forgot my mayo dip at home and will have to buy bottled ranch dressing from the cafeteria today- boo hiss! I used to love that stuff and now...not so much. It even looks fake. We took a pork break for dinner last night and had some chicken breasts that I threw in the sous vide thingy plus some grilled broccoli (cheesy for my husband, plain and deliciously charred for me). Have fun with your grill. I really missed it when we were without and I think the best new thing we got was a veg basket so you don't have to be careful about dropping your vegetables through the grates- it makes it almost like doing a stir-fry. The one we got was flat stainless with cutouts for the fire to hit the veggies. The woven ones looked like a pain to clean. I don't want anything that requires a toothbrush to clean- except, of course my teeth! You are such a better meal planner than I am. Unless I have a hankering for something specific, I almost always do what you're doing. I'm trying to get better about applying a little forethought but I'm not always successful and fall back on some kind of grilled or pan-fried protein with a veg (two if I'm lucky!). That's tonight- a little sirloin steak and some vegetable something something. Tikka masala meatballs sound delicious! I've been having a meatball craving lately. I'm thinking maybe MJ's Cuban balls. I can't believe it's already Wednesday! We need to get in the garden so I think that's the plan for this weekend instead of going to the annual crawfish boil at the joint up the road. We have a wedding to attend the next weekend and I leave for LA the following Saturday so it'll be here in a flash. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed but it's all going to work out. I'll need to have another emu cookup before I leave so I need to start trying to coordinate that even though I have plenty at the moment. AAAND...she's gained some weight!! She actually let me weigh her and she was up 1.2 lbs but she'd just eaten so I'm guessing it's a tad under a pound. I'll take it, though. I've turned her into a bone broth junkie! I always trusted W30 to have a positive impact on my life but didn't quite anticipate it being like this. Trust the program!

    Testing Canola oil

Thanks Grace A. I was exposed at a restaurant after calling ahead to confirm I could be whole 30 compliant there. My digestive distress was fairly severe and came on fast so I am thinking I need to test it out. Canola seems to have a high prevalence for use in restaurants as the healthy option oil (clearly Canadian researches that invented the process did an outstanding marketing job).

    Too much meat!

Thank you!! My meals are definitely keeping me full for 4-5 hours for sure. I am definitely never hungry which is a good thing! I guess I’m just not used to that feeling. Idk why I just feel bigger. But You’re right, it’s probably in my head. But I am definitely eating a lot more potatoes then normal lol

    Testing Canola oil

Hi there! Personally, I tend to leave canola oil out of my diet as much as possible. It is known to be an inflammatory oil, so there may not be a real reason to reintroduce it! I don't worry about being exposed to it in restaurants since that is not a large part of my diet. However, if you did want to test it through reintroduction, your best bet is to buy a bottle or borrow some from a friend perhaps.

    Too much meat!

Probably not gaining weight. Seems like you're freaking yourself out a little bit, which does no good at all for your body. If you feel like you're using too much oil, cut back a little bit and see how you feel. See if your meals are still keeping you satiated for 4-5 hours. Play around with lighter meals (salads or grilled chicken breast with steamed veggies) and add plated fats like avocado or olives instead of using oil as a main fat source. You're on day 3. Take a couple deep breaths, step back, and know that it'll be okay.

    Testing Canola oil

Accidently exposed to canola oil, gluten and soybean at hubbies birthday dinner out - fairly severe digestive distress. Took an extra day, 3 instead of 2, to calm my gut! How do u test Canola oil separately without buying a bottle of canola?

    Colonoscopy

It's a bit late to the punch here, but you can make just about any type of gelatin you can think of with some creative use of something like agar-agar (it's sourced from seaweed, but mods can correct me if I'm wrongly assuming it'd be compliant ingredient-wise). I've seen some pretty neat stuff using coconut milk and vegetables, though fruits can be used as well and obviously you'd have to tweak things a bit since recipes will tend to call for some type of sweetener... you wouldn't need the whole fruits, either, so no need to actually eat them (just toss them into a processor for a puree and strain, or just use the juice). Hopefully that helps for the future, since I realize that we're past the time when I assume your procedure would've been.

    Too much meat!

Thank you so much. I don’t eat fish because I am allergic to shell fish. Yes, I know that is not the only type of fish but I just never grew up eating it, and it has never been a part of my diet. I know it’s only going to be my 3rd day, but I feel like I’m gaining weight! is that possible??

    Substitute For Gum

During W30, I learned that I could ditch peppermints by keeping a cup of ice close at hand (crushed or small enough cubes so I can suck on them easily, keeping my mouth from drying out without constantly drinking) and using mint or ginger tea to help with stomach issues (generally mint for nausea and ginger for indigestion). Granted, that doesn't give the same "chewing" action unless you're going to crunch on the ice (which I don't recommend, for the sake of your enamel), but maybe it'll help. I will say that my W30 intake drastically decreased my occurrences of nausea and other stomach issues (from nearly daily to maybe once per week, and with new-found knowledge of certain foods that almost always cause it), so I'll hope you experience something similar!
  21. Are you recovered from your big event? Hopefully you have had some needed rest. 13K sounds like a lot of steps in one day - how many miles is that? Oh, the full moon sounds so magical. I'm loving seeing the moonlight around our place lately. Hooray for a new tent! Sounds like you got every inch of life out of the old one! Now the picking party is over, and you can relax a little bit! How is Kitty? Puffy and slimmer - I get it! I'm feeling fatter from recent-months' mission creep, but also slimmer from the last 16 days of W30'ing = ) So now, to keep on keeping on!!! Our staffer is back, so as of a few hours ago, my marathon is over...I did well food-wise, but I gradually stopped the morning yoga. Boy, was I productive, though! I got winter put away, and summer out. My new merchandise is selling like crazy -- cool fair trade stuff from Nepal among other things, and new window dressings, and, and, and...I've been a busy bee, including a 12-hour day on Saturday, which felt like the height of summer business-wise. All good! Tomorrow is my errands day (10 stops are on my list for home and store), and I will come home with that new gas grill! Yay! So I've been sitting at my desk planning recipes and groceries, and it will be a new world! I think I'll start with the brats (we bought lots more), and also make kabobs, and who knows what else. But I'm feeling a little bored with my usual recipes, so digging into the files of things I haven't tried yet, I'm planning tikka masala meatballs, oven-fried chicken tenders for fun and comfort, and a piccata, as it's been awhile. Where I usually plan finitely what I'm going to cook, in this case I'll bring home lots of great raw ingredients, and see what shakes out, which is out of my comfort zone, but I'm sure I'll survive, and intend not to waste anything which I sometimes do when I'm not as tightly organized. I'm so tired! TIme for a nap, or, to bed early! Zzzzzzz...the rest of my desk work can wait. Zzzzzzz

    Restarting/Vent

Hi @Loyal Leslie - sorry you're struggling and good on you for rethinking your post. Whole30 definitely can take some people by surprise. Google "Whole30 budget" and there are lots of ideas. Just on this forum we have a tonne of threads about this: Here's a forum google search to get you started: https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1GCEV_enCA838CA838&ei=GbS_XI-YAszh-gThz47AAg&q=forum.whole30.com%3A+budget&oq=forum.whole30.com%3A+budget&gs_l=psy-ab.3...63101.68245..68377...1.0..0.85.1798.26......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71j35i39j0i131j0j0i67j0i131i20i263j0i30j0i5i10i30j0i8i30j0i22i30j33i160.7_Lkbs7NoIo As for having time, the program does take a time committment and it often means reprioritizing other things in your life. Lots of our members will evaluate where they are spending their time (tv, scrolling social media, FB etc) and make different choices. Maybe it means getting up an hour earlier? We also recommend that if you are cooking that you make extra. An entire sheetpan of chicken thighs, a bunch of steamed brocoli etc.

Day 23 and I feel terrible

Hi @Hannah R - your menu looks ok to me - you could do away with the snacks and instead focus on larger meals. if you do need a snack between meals, stick with protein + fat or protein + veggies. The fruits and/or nuts aren't really doing anything for you. Are you easily making it 4-5 hours between meals? You could do with increasing your eggs at breakfast by a couple and make sure you are eating at least a palm of protein at each meal. Just so you know, chickpeas are not compliant with the program as they are a legume.
  24. Hannah R

Day 23 and I feel terrible

Okay. So, in the mornings I have 2 or 3 eggs with spinach or other veggies, usually. That's around 7:45-8a. Then for lunch (every day at 12:30p) I have a big salad with mixed dark and light greens and canned chicken or tuna with carrots, olive oil dressing and avocado if I happen to have some. Sometimes I also add chickpeas in as for a while I thought perhaps that would help me feel less tired? I don't feel like they do, however, so I don't add really them anymore. For snacks I will have a banana or a handful of roasted almonds. For dinner I usually have either stirfries with various ground meat and colorful veggie mix and cauli rice, or if I don't have that I have baked chicken with veggies (a variety, anything from steamed cauliflower/broccoli/carrot mixes to roasted sweet potatoes/brussel sprouts/red onions. That's anywhere from 6-8pm.

    Too much meat!

Non-meat meals would use eggs for protein, and there are lots of options for that. I like this one, though it is a little bit of trouble to make because of draining the zucchini noodles: https://meljoulwan.com/2011/08/18/comfort-noodles/. This one has chicken, but feels light to me: https://meljoulwan.com/2011/05/08/paleo-pad-thai/. Why do you not eat fish? If it's a texture or flavor preference, maybe we could help you find some that you might like. Of course if it's an allergy, then it's not an option at all. Some of the tips here might be helpful: http://whole9life.com/2013/02/eating-meat-a-primer-for-the-meat-challenged-2/ As for the fat, it is important to have some fat with each meal, because it will help keep you satisfied between meals, and because healthy fats are actually good for you. But if you don't want as much oil, you could have a handful of olives or some avocado/guacamole, or make dips or sauces or dressings that may not feel as oily.

    SchrodingersCat doing the thing diary!

So yesterday was a giant fail. Laksa, followed by pepperoni pizza. My stomach HATES me. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Today, we have tuna salad with celery, and fajitas for dinner with romaine lettuce instead of tortillas.

    Too much meat!

Hi everyone! Today is my second day on whole 30. I think I’m doing well so far!! My only thing is that I feel like I’m eating way to much meat (chicken and beef). I don’t eat fish so I know I’m limited. All of my meals today had a meat in it and now I just feel disgusted. Any meatless (no fish) recipes out there? Also I feel like I am eating so much oil (olive oil of course) I never consumed this much. Everything I make is with it. I know I can use ghee or coconut oil, but anything without oil at all? Or is this just what whole 30 is? Help! I’m afraid I’m being more unhealthy then I was before I started
