  1. Derval you are cracking me up on several levels. We probably will hold off on crowning you the Vice President of Patience. With 3 booch fans, you probably need to expand. Before I gave my trainer his own SCOBY, I was taking him 4 bottles a week and I felt like once in a while when daughter came over, I didn't want to share.

  3. So, how many litres is your container? 4? You can go all the way down to 25% left and it will still re-booch in 3-4 days. Maybe 5. I didn't know both kidlets were drinking it. You're in trouble if DH decided to like it. ETA: also, as your SCOBY grows and has babies, it all happens faster. Really..the process all speeds up with CB.
  4. Derval, like Nadia said, once you get into the flow, you will have plenty of booch. Also, when you have SCOBY babies, you can have your CB and batch brew which is what I have going right now. I like bottling 4-6 16 oz bottles at a time a couple of times a week or even less. The CB method is tidier because of nifty spigot but I still like both methods. Squish those blueberries next time. I find that waiting 2 days makes a big difference in the flavor.
  5. Meg I will link the info. As Nadia said, you can decaf it yourself. It's an easy process.
  6. Derval, when I do blueberry, it's darker than pink and I definitely taste it. I would say I used 20 berries or so. I squish them in a bowl and then put them in the bottle.
  7. Clearly I have a problem. I played a little hookie from work this morning to go get plain Kombucha so I didn't have to wait until Saturday to start. I got some decaf black tea, too. I'm thinking I'll go half caf. Starting tonight! I've already decided on a name-can't wait to see Scooby begin to form! ######################### Meg..wait. Hannah Crumb from KombuchaKamp says in an article to never use store bought decaf tea because it has been treated with a chemical that is bad for Scooby. I can't link it from Tapatalk but as soon as I get back from my dog walk, I will fire up my laptop and link the article so you can read it and decide. Also, she states that Kombucha typically only contains 1/3 of the caffein that a cup of tea contains.
  8. Eww yeah..banana sounds ick. I think I prefer a less fruity one for the most part. Love the idea of the numi choc tea flavor but I can barely detect it. I will try 2 tea bags next time and maybe just cut the tea bags so it's loose. Going to the fancy tea store today to get some hibiscus tea (Robin loves her K brew using it) and I want to check out fun flavors.
  9. Derval I saw something similar at my neighborhood store last night but the flavors weren't something I wanted. Apple cinnamon and some other. Going to look more carefully today.
  10. Okay..crisis over. Seems my tapatalk app decided to take a dive with frank. Reinstalled and I'm back in business. Okay, one of the babies is Shamu. They appear to have become one so before I name #4, I'll wait and see. Night fellow brewers.
  11. Wow. I am not using tapatalk right now but still on my phone. Anyone else having trouble opening tapatalk? I just get a black screen and then a message saying try again. This is weird..it's not tapatalk and there was no place to log in. I may show up as annonymous. It's Susan. :0)
  12. I use frozen a lot because I don't really eat fruit very often. Frozen works great. The mango was fresh because I tasted the frozen mango and it does not taste like mango to me.
  13. Kb, I am fond of mango. Mine was perfectly ripe. You know..when the skin gets a little wrinkled? I did not care for jalapeno. It tasted like green bell pepper. I did like habenaro. I think its all so personal though. You should try what sounds good to you. You may find you need to adjust the recipe to your liking. I could not taste my chocolate tea booch but I am not giving up. :0)
  14. I just realized I have not named any of my new SCOBYs. Being an ocean girl, Dora is one. Arial another. I will ponder the two babies but at least one should be a boy. Or maybe I will be like House and name them 1,2,3,4.
  15. Ha ha, poor Frank. No wonder he is sulking at the bottom of the jar, with a mean mummy like me. ######################### Sophie according to Kombuchakamp, they are fine living wherever they want. They are less likely to develop mold if they live under the sea with Dora. :0)
  16. Everyone elses' SCOBYS are so nice and smooth and pale compared to mine. Frank is all bumpy and brown with tannin and a bit fuzzy looking with yeast. Is it because he is an ugly boy SCOBY? With boy germs? Frank does NOT have cooties.
  17. Vanilla you can either use and split a vanilla bean or if not on a W30 use vanilla extract. Coriander...hmm..you can get seeds and toast them and toss them in whole or whack them with a knife and then toss them in. Yum!! One of my favorites was a lime, mint and mango mojito.
  18. She just might. It will just take a little longer than it normally does but Nadia looks almost ready to me.
  19. Kb the color is from the tannins (tanins?) in the tea. No worries. Funny because as I was walking Olivia down to the baseball field I said (outloud) "hey, we havent seen a photo of Nadia SCOBY yet".
  20. Absolutely. In a panic, I ran to the store and bought two bottles because I had too much tea and too many SCOBYs and only a little starter. My calculations were way off.
  21. Jenna, now that you say that, I have read if you dont have enough starter liquid you can use vinegar.
  22. Nadia you were the one who taught me the lovely label removing technique. Although I may have found the hot water part on google. Lizz, you should have seen how crazy I went when I learned the fun art of posting pics from my phone. Make sure you remove the label before you wash the bottles. Otherwise the gum will remain and you'll have to use goo gone.
  23. Well, sipping on a ginger chocolate numi kt. Love the fizz but I cant really detect the tea. Maybe because its basically going into coldish liquid, it needs 2 bags or maybe I will open the bags. I just received 2 boxes of it. Chocolate suntea and booch on the horizon. :0)
  24. In vinegar? Was it a dehydrated SCOBY? Inquiring minds must know. :0)
