Brittany208
My husband's family is planning a get-together soon. What delicious Whole30-approved side should I make? I don't want everyone to notice I'm not eating the same thing as everyone else, because I don't want to deal with all of the questions. (I don't need a healthier version of something unhealthy. Just something normal people would bring to a cookout that I could eat)
WillSingForFood
I have made deviled eggs with homemade mayo. No one will notice any difference. You just have to make enough so that you get some for yourself! If your husband's family is anything like my husband's family, the deviled eggs are the first thing to go! remybriscoe
omg yes deviled eggs - always a party favorite! i also love making a big platter of grilled veggies, grill them with a balsamic marinade, or top them off with a yummy chimichurri sauce or something. fruit salad, veggie tray with homemade mayo-based dip or guacamole, chicken or tuna salad (with the homemade mayo) served in endive leaves was always a favorite of my mom's parties. or meatballs?! throw something in the crockpot and bring that along! Brittany208
I was thinking about eggs. I just made some the other day with homemade, compliant mayo and they were SO good. And yeah, you couldn't tell the difference
beelieve
I make a broccoli/grape/cucumber/red onion salad that's just dressed with homemade mayo mixed with a TB of lemon juice and salt and pepper. It's awesome.
Whole30 Certified Coach littleg Posted May 13, 2014 Whole30 Certified Coach Share Posted May 13, 2014 Mango salsa - cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, mango, lime juice, cilantro and some jalapenos for heat Guacamole This <-- just discovered, really good! GFChris
This <-- just discovered, really good! ^ This is unfortunately not Whole30 compliant, due to the honey.
GlennR
^ This is unfortunately not Whole30 compliant, due to the honey. Maybe replace with something like pureed apple or pear, or pineapple bits.
missmary
FWIW, I've make a very similar slaw with no added sweetener at all: it could be my post-Whole30 tastebuds, but I think it is pretty good.
Whole30 Certified Coach littleg Posted May 14, 2014 Whole30 Certified Coach Share Posted May 14, 2014 Oh, I'm sorry! I totally forgot about the tbsp of honey... I'm done with my W60 but still read the forums and it slipped my mind I think some apple juice like someone suggested would be good. On the other hand that 1 tbsp is for the 16 oz bag of slaw I buy so even just skipping it might be fine! What about date paste? Is that allowed for a recipe like this? DanielleM
Roasted Rosemary Sweet Potatoes? http://www.amazingpaleo.com/2012/08/18/roasted-rosemary-sweet-potatoes/ I make these every time I have to bring a dish somewhere- it's so easy, and you can scale the recipe to make as much or as little as you need. I've had people who don't like sweet potatoes go crazy for this.
