LauraDanger
For those who dont know it, it is a special Birthday tomorrow in Scotland. A famous poet Robert Burns. So to celebrate this occasion we usually have a "Burns supper" which consists of 'Haggis, neeps (mashed suede) and tatties (mash potato)' we usually finish this off with a nice creamy peppercorn sauce with extra alcohol added (maybe some whiskey or brandy). So i go into the supermarket today for some parsnips and carrots and happen to see the haggis in the fridge by the door with Scottish bunting all around it. "hummm" i think, "i wonder HOW non-whole30 this will be, i know the ingredients are strange but lets see" First ingredient: Sheep lung. (followed by oats and what not) So thank you for teaching me to read the label. What on earth have i been eating? Once you see you can not unsee, next year I will be looking for haggis alternatives haha. blergh
missmary
for the record: sheep lung is ok on the whole30 (oats not so much). Happy Birthday Robert Burns
laura_juggles
Stuff the sheep lung with cauliflower rice? (That just sounds terrible, to be honest)
purplewaffle105
We're making a whole30 haggis by mixing lamb and beef mince, lots of finely chopped onions, cauliflower rice (to replace the oatmeal) and the same herbs and spices you would get in haggis - salt, black pepper, ground coriander and nutmeg. And served with neeps and tatties. Fingers crossed!
jmcbn
You might get a better result using something like almond meal or flax meal seeing as the purpose of the oats is really to bind everything... Some hae meat and canna eat, And some wad eat that want it, But we hae meat and we can eat, And sae the Lord be thankit.Happy Burns Night - Enjoy!
