Kshbennett
I really want to try the No Fuss Salmon Cake recipe. The recipe calls for canned sweet potatoes, but the only canned sweet potatoes in any of my local stores are canned in “light syrup”. This doesn’t sound compliant to me, so I’m wondering what a good substitution would be. Boil a sweet potato and mash it?

I've never seen canned sweet potato or pumpkin, so that's what I've always done. Maybe a splash of coconut cream to make it a bit creamier, although probably not necessary for that recipe. Moderators ShannonM816 Posted May 21, 2018 Moderators Share Posted May 21, 2018 I bake the sweet potato, peel, and mash it, or you could microwave it. But yes, cook a sweet potato and mash it. If you really wanted to use canned something, pumpkin, not pie filling but plain pumpkin, would probably work, though the flavor would be a little different. kirkor
It's the Whole30 unicorn. Maybe there's a baby food version?
alisonegilbert
I could never find it, and I have made it with both canned butternut squash and canned pumpkin, and both turned out great!
