not possible

My dr recommended this program to me, but I am skeptical.  I have unintentionally lost 46% of my body weight.  I currently have a low normal (and still dropping) BMI.  This is not due to an eating disorder.  I've had everything scanned, prodded, scoped, tested repeatedly.  No reason found. No cancer found, no autoimmune issues, viruses, etc found.  I have gut pain and certain foods makes it worse.  I also have dry mouth and have found it increasingly difficult to swallow dry food.  The last few months I've been able to manage little more than peanut butter, applesauce, diced fruit, and sometimes chicken if it has enough something liquid on it.

Eggs make me sick.  I do not eat anything that comes out of the water.  I don't eat beets, spinch, romaine, kale.

So, so far I've found that this program offers me olive oil, potatoes, and chia seeds (which I've never had), and unprocessed chicken and it's broth, unprocessed beef and it's broth.  And WATER.  forgot that one.  Is that what I'm supposed to eat for a month?  Am I missing something?  I'd like to GAIN weight and less GI problems.  I don't see how this is supposed to work. I do not want medical advice.  I am just wanting clarification on the program.

Hi @sickforyr - that sounds like a scary and frustrating situation you're in!

If you don't eat seafood or eggs, then you are left with chicken, beef and pork. For veggies you have tonnes more options if you are just off of beets and leafy greens. Potatoes are one, yes, also carrots, green beans, asparagus, squashes both winter and summer, brocoli, cauliflower, peppers etc. For fats you would be looking at avocados, coconut products, various cooking oils (avocado, sesame, olive), ghee, homemade mayo, chimichurri etc. Technically also nuts but those wouldn't be recommended if you're already having digestive issues.

We don't give medical advice so no problem there! :) Some thing that it strikes me that you might try for the dry food and mouth issues as well as the desire to gain weight is to focus on your fats. Make sure you are using enough sauces and dressings and fats that the food is delicious and easier to swallow.  For folks that do need to gain weight we refer them to this article:  https://whole30.com/2013/12/keeping-weight-whole30/

For trouble with eating in general we often advise people to try soups (blended or a good hearty one) as they can be a bit easier to digest.

To decrease GI problems, stay away from nuts and seeds and limit or eliminate dried fruits and any fizzy waters.

Let us know if there is any further clarification you desire!

Tonnes are tons -- regional spelling variation, I'm guessing, since ladyshanny is in Canada, I think.

For sauces,  there's chimichurri: http://meljoulwan.com/2014/07/02/chimichurri-aka-magic-sauce/, or pesto (not store bought, since most contains cheese):  http://meljoulwan.com/2009/08/05/presto-pesto/

For the vegetables you won't eat, why won't you eat them? If it's an allergy, fine, but if it's a belief that you don't like them, it might be time to examine why you don't like them and if there are different ways to prepare them that might be more palatable.

@sickforyr - you said sauces that don't contain mayo. Is that because you don't like it or because you think that you can't have it? Homemade mayo is worlds different than anything you would ever buy in a store.

If you like ranch dressing there are also some very simple homemade ranch that you can make. Google "Whole30 dump ranch" and you should get some excellent results. If you like avocado, I also have an amazing blended sauce recipe for that which is fresh and bright and so, SO delicious! If you want it, I'll go dig it up from my old phone....well worth it if it's something you'll eat!

There's a recipe for egg-less mayo in one of the Whole 30 books that involves, I think, coconut butter.  And this one: http://meljoulwan.com/2013/10/27/egg-less-homemade-mayo/  (Although flax seeds may be hard on digestion, depending.)

Have you seen the shopping list:

https://whole30.com/downloads/whole30-shopping-list.pdf

Cross off what you can't eat, you should still have plenty of options.  It's also not a comprehensive list of all possible foods, so add whatever.  I second the soup idea mentioned above!
