Debbie Walsh
Unsweetened, I usually but it in half gallon size, is this okay or do I need the canned kind? Is almond milk a no no?
Susan W
Unfortunately, the cartons of both are full of junk like carageenan. Cans of coconut milk that only have coconut, water and guar gum at the most are what you want.
1Maryann
Almond milk is easy enough to make. There are lots of how-to videos out there. Basically, you soak almonds overnight in water, then drain and throw in the food processor. Once done, you strain it through cheesecloth. Tastes much better than the stuff in the carton. praxisproject
If you don't have time for soaking, hazelnuts can make instant nut milk as they don't need soaking
Robin Strathdee
I'm going to throw in a caution here for all you make-your-own-milkers: Be very moderate in your consumption of almond milk. It is,essentially, nuts and water, and it can be really easy to overconsume nuts in this (processed) way.
1Maryann
Thanks, Robin. Always good to get reminders. When I make it, I only make small batches and use a TBS or two in coffee.
Melelina
I am so glad you mentioned this, Robin. While I haven't had any almond milk since starting the W30, I used to have two big glasses a day, along with protein powder. I just figured it was so low in calories, nothing else mattered. praxisproject
I've found I much prefer coconut cream in my coffee, more satisfying than the nut milks
melbournegirl
Sniff... I've gone back to black after overindulging in coconut cream... Hang on I've also cut out coffee now so it doesn't matter any more LOL
