ElleGetsFit
I was just told I couldn't have Shrimp/Shelfish on Whole30...is this true? Because I didn't see where this was to be avoided. I know that seafood and Mercury issues are there, but I can't really eat a ton of Chicken/ Red Meat. I didn't see this on the list of things to avoid. kb0426
I believe all seafood are allowed, fish and shellfish. At least I hope so since I have already had shrimp several times and scallops since I started 10 days ago!
Susan W
Who told you they weren't allowed? Yes, they most certainly are!
ElleGetsFit
Who told you they weren't allowed? Yes, they most certainly are! I'm following a support group on FB, i just posted my shrimp she said, it wasn't whole 30 approved. It was fresh shrimp from whole foods that i froze. I started looking around and I didn't see anywhere on the list that mentioned i shouldn't and couldn't eat shellfish. The list says seafood, i always assumed seafood meant everything. She said no, only fish and that shellfish should be avoided. I can't eat a lot of red meat, and I don't really trust my grocer's chicken so i kinda rely on seafood. I'm sure there would be a big chapter in the book if it wasn't okay to eat shellfish. Just remember that fish you buy in the store was previously frozen, so you probably shouldn't re-freeze it. That's kind of a no no. They have really good frozen shrimp. It's so convenient because you just pull out what you want that meal and defrost it under slowly running water in a bowl. Takes no time at all.

I'm kinda edging towards going it on my own, and maybe sticking to this forum for support. I feel like this is the second time I've been told i did something wrong, and it turned out to be be "not" wrong.

At least here, even if I make a mistake and say the wrong thing, a moderator usually comes along and corrects me. No moderators means people can just wing it. I so want to know where that person got that info. I do know I have read a ton of paleo porn and sometimes I forget which is which, so maybe that's what happened. I'd stay here in the cave with us. I'd stay here in the cave with us. The cave is looking the best at this point, because I looked, and I attempted this two months ago. I got past a week or so but even then it said seafood, not just fish. So I don't know I don't have time to deprive myself of all this stuff and then add things that i know i need in order to stay on this. I don't recall that being something on the Avoid list. Robin Strathdee
Just to re-iterate, yes! All seafood is fine (as long as there are no hinky ingredients involved). So sorry you got misinformation. If ever there is a question, the mods here are happy to answer (and you can point your friends toward the answer here).
mandg
This may be a silly question but is there a limit to how many shrimp I can have? Want to get the most out of my protein! Thanks!!
GFChris
This may be a silly question but is there a limit to how many shrimp I can have? Want to get the most out of my protein! Thanks!! The general guidance on protein is 1-2 palm sizes per meal (where a palm is the length, width and thickness of the palm of your hand). Have that with 1-3 cups of veggies and a fat. You're aiming for meals that satiate you for 4-5 hours. Play with the portions until you get there.

I have medium tail on shrimp from Costco. I love shrimp and can eat a lot which I'm sure isn't suggested lol. Thanks so much, Barb
slc_melissa
How big is your palm? Eat 1-2 equivalents of that in shrimp meat.
