Noelle
What could I use to sweeten my homemade BBQ-type sauce? My recipe calls for molasses. I was thinking some juice-sweetened apricot preserves would be just the right balance of sweet and tart, but that seems to toe the cheaty, SWYPO line. Is there a not-too-sweet, kid-friendly, Whole30-approved BBQ sauce recipe out there I should know about?
Carlaccini
Apple sauce would work as a sweetner, or apple juice. I have also tried dates too (whiz in a blender/food processor) but I find dates a little hard to incorporate. Just google Paleo BBQ sauce and you will come up with a lot of different recipes. Somepeople like hot and spicy BBQ sauce, others like sweeter. Take your pick. And as always wach for compliant ingriedients.
TrayS
My husband made some bbq sauce last weekend using 100% apple juice (reduced on the stove) and tomato paste. YUM

Robin Strathdee
If it were me, I'd go with a few dates soaked in hot water. Remove the dates to a blender, processor, what have you and add in a little bit of the water to make a paste. And there's a BBQ sauce recipe in ISWF if that helps

They also work great for homemade siracha.
