christaeno
Christaeno, It could be just certain types of veggies. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and cabbage could do it. Maybe try to limit those to just small servings, and eat moreover things like lettuce, squash, carrots, bell peppers, etc. I know how frustrating it can be. I have nursed four kids and they were all sensitive to what I was eating. It will get better as they get older. Are you drinking more coffee to curb cravings? My kids were very sensitive to caffeine. Also, it sounds weird but once when my twins were small I ate turkey at three meals Ina row and they were very fussy. My mother in law told me her kids were sensitive to turkey when she nursed them. You've got my sympathy though. PS could be time for another chiropractor visit? I actually don't eat those veggies for that reason. I should have known he might have a problem because he is sensitive to dairy, which is why I got the idea to start this. I don't drink coffee and he went to the chiropractor last week. I made the decision to just stick with the ideas of Whole30 for now but eat other stuff if I feel the need. We will try again in a few months when his stomach is more mature. I made some lactation cookies today so I am already off plan. I talked to my mom about it and she reminded me that I am not feeding a normal size 3 month old. I grow large babies. He is close to 15 pounds already so I am eating constantly to keep up with him even without worrying about whether or not food I eat is compliant. I feel good about the progress I made, so I know we will be able to make it through when we try again. Thank you all for your advice and encouragement! angledge
christaeno, I'm sorry to see you go but it's totally understandable why you're going. Don't worry, the Whole30 will still be here for you in a few months. I hope you & baby are feeling better soon!
jess in the uk
Day 9 is winding up and I was seriously grumpy today. Like a small child about to throw a tantrum. Ive been feeling good up until now. I have a little cold and it is starting to turn cold here..boo. I was supposed to go to my second crossfit class today but rescheduled for tomorrow. But I did go for a run and that helped a little. Brfore I left to run, my actual words to my husband were: "Im going for a run before i hurt someone." And all I wanted for dinner was a banana and cashew nut butter which really that would be about the sugar dragon. I didnt do it and had some minced beef, veg, coconut oil, and seasoning. It wasnt very exciting but I got rid of the sugar craving. Crossing my fingers that day 10 is better. A little scared because day 10 and 11 are when many people quit. Oh well one day at a time! angledge
Jess in the uk, hang in there! Good job wrangling that sugar dragon. I, too, had a tussle with the Notorious S.D. today & I didn't handle it as well as you did. I had a snack attack mid-morning (which I haven't had before on the Whole30, but which was a routine feature of my day before that). And what did I eat? Fresh pineapple. Yeah, that didn't help. After a couple of helpings of pineapple, I realized how dumb this approach was & drank a cup of bone broth. THAT worked perfectly. Live & learn, right Team November? abigayle57
Welcome, Abby! My husband and I will be in Chicago Saturday for a formal gala. We are committed to staying compliant and would LOVE some Paleo friendly restaurant suggestions close to to Hubbard St downtown. Can you help a girl out? I did a search and came up with these... http://paleoporn.net/restaurants/chicago/ Ok, this finding a restaurant thing is HARD - but I think I found where I'm eating Friday night, and in the course of this I found another restaurant over at Clark and Hubbard that might be an option. From looking at the menus, everything will probably need a little tailoring, but at least we have more than one option that doesn't require a complete overhaul. I'm totally fine saying "no cheese please!" Where I plan to eat Friday night: http://www.eatatmeat.com/#!home-streeterville/c6ll A cafe at Clark & Hubbard that looks to be super sensitive to dietary restrictions: http://www.lyfekitchen.com/menu/full-menu/
jess in the uk
Angledge: Thanks so much for that! Yum...pineapple! But yes, live and learn; that is what its all about. And good for you for realizing, correcting it, moving on, and not giving up! Yay November:)
heatherglick
I'm on day 6 but only just able to join in the conversation (my account needed to be verified!) but I've been encouraged and inspired by the comments on this board - I've been with you in spirit. This is my first Whole 30 and I am really proud of myself that I have been able to stick with it. I am mostly hoping to 'slay the sugar dragon' - I know there is not a lot of scientific support for the idea of sugar addiction but I sure feel like I have an uncontrollable problem with sweets and goodies. So far I've been fine with having some fruit (not a trigger food for me) and I am not craving sweets at all. This morning was a bit of a disaster - I decided to try a whole 30 recipe that was posted on FB but without my reading glasses chose garlic salt instead of garlic powder. So the sausage egg spinach casserole was double salted and completely inedible! At least lunch was more successful:)
Dem
Christaeno, good luck and I hope baby starts to feel better soon! Day 10 winding down here. I am still cruising. My energy is definitely becoming more stable. My new favorite food is sweet potato with salsa. Dinner tonight will be leftover roast beef with sweet potato and salsa. Maybe some frozen spinach too. littlerayrox
I just joined and am on day 4. I love the food! Love it! I've had one dream about food. I dreamed I was looking for a kitchen to bake some cookies in. I had flour and butter in my hands. I found a kitchen, a sort of community thing, with a bunch of women baking there. All of a sudden, the desire to bake went away, and I dumped them in the trash and walked away. Made me laugh when I woke up!
CrazyCow
Hi Everyone! It's day 6 for me of Whole30 number 5! I've been gearing up for this current W30 for a while, though by gearing up, I probably mean spiraling down --How did this happen? Well it's been a rather pleasant spiral, I can't deny--at least on the surface. So, every May I do a 40-mile walk for breast cancer--this past May was my 5th walk. When you participate in endurance events like that, you eat...well, a LOT. In the weeks following I just never seemed to stop the eating part. But I did stop the exercise part...WHAT on EARTH? Fast forward six months, and nothing fits properly, I don't feel great, sleep is elusive, blah, blah, blah. So here I am with a fine group of people once again...! My first W30 started Jan 1 of 2013--fast forward almost two years later and I can tell you (from a fair bit of experience!) that the W30 community is brilliant. The forum itself is just an all round place to get support and interact with others who have started the same journey--even if the reasons for starting a W30 are different. My first W30 I ran solo, the my 2nd was with my husband, the 3rd was with my daughter, and the 4th--was with a group of friends and we did a weekly potluck of W30 dishes--it was great. Now this one is on my own, and there was a collective gasp when people heard I'd be whole 30-ing through Thanksgiving, but I have a secret--I KNOW how good eating can be on Whole 30. On any of my previous rounds, I've never been worried about being 'tempted' because at the end of the day, it's a choice. What do I want more? Health? Or another lager? The answer is not always the same, but once I make the choice, that's it. Anyway. You get the idea. Nice to see you all here--let's go November starters! angledge
It's freakin' COLD here in Denver today & tomorrow's going to be even colder! Tomorrow's HIGH temperature is forecast to be seven degrees (Fahrenheit). So dinner tonight was shepherd's pie - mmmm, comfort food. Tomorrow I'm going to get a rotisserie chicken from Whole Foods (I believe their "pure plain" is compliant) & eat up a bunch of leftover veggies with it. Fresh batch of beef bone broth, too. A cup of warm broth wards off the chilly weather very nicely! What's the weather like where you are?

drtracyb
Done with Day 11. I took the kids to Legoland today and survived to tell the story, It did entail buying compliant food at the grocery store and sitting outside the park eating our lunch before we went in. Breakfast was eggs and sauteed mushrooms; lunch was chicken salad and some apple slices; dinner was chicken pan fried in my cast iron pan and carrot mash. joybedford
Day 12 just beginning and I had my first real food dream last night. I was at my parents house and ate breaded fish woke up in a cold sweat. I kind of had one last week where I was on "I'm a celebrity get me out of here", a TV show if you don't know eating the bugs and other horrible things they eat on there but I was quizzing the host as to whether they were whole 30 compliant, it made me laugh. My jaw pain is much improved didn't need any pain meds yesterday, it's still tender but manageable. I am continuing with soft food for now though. Made a big batch of my favourite breakfast yesterday, onions, sweet potato, apple and bacon sautéed in coconut oil served with eggs, yum. Going to make more ginger courgette soup today. I still feel tired in an evening but had lots of energy throughout the day got lots of housework done and general cleaning. Hoping to start working out again today, I really have let that slip. SWF
In Jackson MS for the evening, found a grocery store and stocked up on carrots, water and found the remnants of a backed chicken in the deli area, poor bird apparently he had four legs. Chicken for dinner and chicken for breakfast....ugh..... hopefully better choices in the next town. Everybody keep hanging tough!

Yesterday was the most gorgeous fall day here, but they're calling for our first snow flakes today! I really don't want winter to come. Day 12 here! Just had a big veggie hash with onions, peppers, potatoes, and mushrooms with three scrambled eggs and a dollop of ISWF BBQ sauce. Today's goal is no snacking between meals and to be in bed by 11pm. What's your goal today?
angledge
My goals for today: have a productive day of work, make it through a trip to Whole Foods without spending a fortune, get the laundry folded. Stretch goal: get the dog outside for a walk. We just moved to Denver in August from Houston & this is the dog's first experience with snow. She's.... not a fan. ladybugger14
Day 12, feeling like I really turned a corner mentally and physically. Dem
Day 11 here. It is really cold here too Angledge, I think he high today is 10. I would really like to leave the kids with the hubby to go grocery shopping but the good store is 1.5 hrs away, and I'm not crazy about going by myself in this weather. Oldest child is driving me nuts. Very sassy and disobedient lately. I think he would do great on a strict paleo diet but i would have to get hubby on board, and i doubt that will happen. He is the type that can have candy bars and ice cream laying around the house for months and only eat a little at a time. I am the exact opposite. He gets mad at me for eating his stash, but I always ask him if he would keep alcohol in the house if I were an alcoholic. I mean, my food issues are an addiction! He doesn't get it. Ok, rant over. Going to have to get kind of creative these next few days or until I can get more food. I see lots of beef in my future, because that's what I have! lorileighb44
Hello All, My start date was Nov 3- so as of today I am 10 days in, 20 more to go. I have severe, chronic asthma- I have to go on prednisone about once a month. I have tried all the medications and the next step is surgery. My Dr recommended that I look into leaky gut (I have had to take lots of antibiotics) and consider this before the surgery. She recommended Whole30, I did some research and started. I am lucky that I have a supportive family and a friend that is doing this with me. She hates to cook and is paying me to make meals for her. I also raise my own chickens and beef so I have access to protein. It has been going well- I do crave sugar- I knew this would be a problem, because I love sugar. Volatpropriis
Day 9 is starting and I am feeling very frustrated. I am currently breastfeeding my 3 month old and something is just off. I have never had issues with milk production, I nursed my first until 22 months, but in the past week my baby is hungry constantly, spitting up way more than normal, and screaming most of the day. I eat a ton throughout the day and not small amounts either. A snack for me is a whole chicken breast with some veggies or fruit and I eat a ton of healthy fats. I have to evaluate whether or not to continue this now or try again when he is older and not relying solely on me for his nutrition. I have six kids and was nursing a 3 at one point. Here are my thoughts... You need an additional 500-700 calories above your normal daily intake for milk production. Increasing your calories is key. Hydration and sleep are both very important. Make sure you are taking a good multivitamin or at least folate, b complex, calcium, magnesium, and trace minerals. Some other things to try: Certain foods can cause gassiness like cabbage, sometimes kale, brusselsprouts, etc. you could experiment with substituting other veggies if those are a daily part of your diet. Also, you should be eating 100-150 grams or more of carbs if you are nursing. If your carbs are too low, you could be giving off ketones which can impact the taste of your milk and be off putting to your baby. You supply may be tanking because your baby isn't eating as much because of the taste, and your body is responding to the reduced demand. Try applying fennel oil directly to your milk ducts to stimulate production. You can also try Motilium,an anti-constipation OTC med that increases milk supply for some women. Hang in there and Keep us posted!
