Brighty
Can I have raisins, dates or Vanilla extract?
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted June 1, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 1, 2015 Raisins and dates -- read your ingredients, make sure there's nothing added. Dried fruit like raisins often has sulfites of some kind added to maintain color. Either raisins or dates should be accents to your meals, not a focus of them, and they shouldn't be used as a snack by themselves. Vanilla extract is out because it will almost always have alcohol in it, and the few that don't have alcohol usually have some kind of sweetener. Please refer to the Can I Have guide and the various downloads to help you determine what is and is not allowed on a Whole30. While we're always happy to help explain the program, many, many questions have been answered in the past.
JulieP757
It seems that lots of raisins have some sort of non-compliant vegetable oil added too. I'm still looking for some that are just raisins
ljcrochet
Sunmaid raisins are just raisins as are BJ's brand raisins in the little snack boxes
merryparrot
What about date sugar and date syrup (both organic)? Since dates are permissible are these?

jmcbn
Dates are a whole fruit and are recommended for use in cooking only rather than eating as they are due to the sugar hit.Date sugar & date syrup are not allowed.
Ateare
Dates are a whole fruit and are recommended for use in cooking only rather than eating as they are due to the sugar hit. Date sugar & date syrup are not allowed. Thank you! I had a question about using dates in things, like bbq sauce. Good to know that whole dates are allowed, in moderation of course. kirkor
Larabar will probably come out with a bacon-date flavor soon.
MeadowLily
Some dried fruits are fantastic. Dried dates, plums, apricots and figs. I can't eat them with abandon because they're high in natural sugar and so I just release them. In my case, quite explosively.
