Cecily
I bought some Thompson raisins at Whole Foods yesterday to use in a dish I was making...a chicken dish from Well Fed. I noticed today that they have expressed sunflower seed oil....WTF? Why would you put that in raisins. I can't believe I didn't read the ingredients...I aways do...I just never thought to check raisins Should I start over. I'm on day 20. Seriously bummed. Moderators Tom Denham Posted January 21, 2013 Moderators Share Posted January 21, 2013 Sunflower oil is not a healthy choice, but it does not ruin your Whole30 either. You can take this as a lesson to read all ingredient labels and just keep going.
Cecily
Thanks..I can't believe I didn't read the label. I have been so good about that.
praxisproject
After finding soy in my teabags, I read all the labels now. Even found weird things in catfood, like imitation crab O.O
penotti
And be careful, a lot of raisins actually contain sulfites too. Sulfites are added to maintain color in dried fruits.
Kaleena
I buy organic, sulfate free raisins. I'm pretty sure most raisins have sulfates otherwise It really is amazing what "extras" are hidden in foods that really should be one ingredient! Mom2A&M
I know this an older thread but, I have regular sunmaide raisins and the ingredient(s) is only California's raisins...no sugar or sulfites llisted. Ok or am I missing something?
Derval
I know this an older thread but, I have regular sunmaide raisins and the ingredient(s) is only California's raisins...no sugar or sulfites llisted. Ok or am I missing something? I just discovered these recently, but previously all other brands I had checked had vergetable oil added.
Tessa Kaney
So if the ingredient is just raisins does that mean it's ok?
Susan W
Yes. If that is the only ingredient, they are fine.
Roslyn Murphy
Are sulfates a no-no. I think I may have eaten a dried apple with sulfates.
