kirkor
Saw this and it reminded me to be mindful of the Whole9 factors we've already focused on: Nutrition --- what we eat & drink, how, when, etc Sleep --- got that no-light sleeping room? Healthy movement --- exercise, go for walks, take the stairs Fun & play --- summer is half over! Take advantage while you can
kirkor
Chapter 11 in The Wahls Protocol (Amazon link) is entitled "Stress Management", and there's some good stuff! She describes the link between stress and insulin resistance, and has a good list of recommended ways to reduce stress: - Spending time in nature - Gardening - Exercise - Meditation and/or prayer - Journaling - Regular contact with a supportive group of people - Contemplate your higher purpose - Forgive - Yoga - Massage - Take an Epsom salt bath Also she goes in to the importance of good sleep (Hello April!) cottagequeen
Need to hit the library and see if I can find that book. Just finished reading one on Procrastination. Spent the last 3 days doing the first 3 on the list you posted. Monday, I mowed my yard and built a compost pile. Tues. I raked up the grass clippings. Yesterday, I got rid of the cat tree/condo monstrosity that was cluttering up my living room. With the $50, I hit up 2 nurseries and bought some flowers that I planted up. Another thing I have been doing this month is EFT (emotional freedom technique). I've only started this last week, so want to give it some time. Seems to be working. Here's a video explaining EFT. claws
No but sounds interesting.....I'm going to research. Thanks July is coming to an end thank goodness, in that it has been a super busy month. Lots of changes at work and mentally for me as well. Overall, I believe that I've done well with reducing the stress in my life and/or managing it in a much more positive way. During the conference that I attended this month, I was introduced to Zentangle. I can officially say that I have now completed my 1st Zentangle. It was quite interesting and I will be incorporating it into my regimen. I was quite surprised and elated when one of the workshops was "Zentangle: A Holistic Approach to Stress Reduction". What a wonderful surprise since this month was ALL about stress management. Thanks for the suggestion as I don't know if I would have attended the session had it not have been for this thread. In addition to other stress reduction techniques, I find that journaling helps as well as calling a friend if and when things are really out of whack. claws
Is everyone ready for some Socialization Socialization is the process by which children and adults learn from others. We begin learning from others during the early days of life; and most people continue their social learning all through life (unless some mental or physical disability slows or stops the learning process). Hopefully I will do better with this one then I did with June's "Fun and Play".

cottagequeen
I toyed with EFT a while back but didn't make it a habit. I will put it on my list of things to try again. Is it still working for you? It seems to be. I had looked into it a while back and didn't go any further, but recently have run across some youtube videos and have been doing it with the videos. I've done 3 different ones and the are only about 5 minutes so easy to fit into the day. Seems to me that I am feeling calmer, more settled I think. gonna keep it up for the month of August just to see where it goes. I need it for socializing, Hard for an introvert like me who would love to just move to a cabin in the middle of nowhere some times! Apparently works with the acupuncture meridians. jmcbn
I'm off out to socialise at the Cinema this morning, and when I say socialise I mean I'm going with my kids who will not talk to me throughout the movie unless to ask for some treats.I've a night out planned for my best friend's Birthday next weekend, and am in talks with a crowd from the gym for a night out in the coming weeks........... I might do okay at this one! (well, in that I'll be out at least once more than normal )
kirkor
Started this week trying to organize some reddit folks for a keto-themed get together --- it's a first time thing so no one's met anyone yet. I think I'm going to schedule it for the 9th. Been browsing http://www.meetup.com/as well, looking for some new clubs to join. Auditioning new jiu jitsu gyms now too, it's far past time for me to get back in to that. So that'll count as Socialization, Fun & Play, AND Physical Movement. cottagequeen
Our church convention is this month, so that fit right in with socialization! Planning a yardsale the last week of this month, need to get rid of some of this stuff I have decided I can live without. Want to plan a get together with friends, but finding a good time to do it.... maybe the Sunday after the yardsale! Ok, gives me time to get planning done and ready for it! claws
Day 1 of Socialization off to a good start. Went out with two other individuals to an arena football game. Our team won which means they also won the division. Will do the same thing next Saturday which is the last game of the season. Headed for an extended massage therapy session tomorrow (August 2). Does that count if I am "shooting the breeze" with my massage therapist? Will be hanging out with my old boss a week from tomorrow... We will be working out and then grabbing some lunch and catching up. Also suppose to be headed to one of the amusement parks sometime this month as I didn't actually make it last time. It's rainy season here so I have to plan around the weather report. Was supposed to be going on a wedding cruise but couldn't make it happen... Decided to just buy the happy couple a SUPER nice wedding gift instead......

I think I'm going to schedule it for the 9th. Well dang. Invited like 18 or so people, people who said they were local and interested in meeting up, only 5 responses, all can't make it. I guess I'll still show up at the place & time to see if anyone comes that didn't RSVP.
jmcbn
That's a shame kirkor, although I suppose the problem is that people sometimes don;t like to mix their virtual life with their real one....Well, I was very sociable last night. Went to my best friend's birthday celebrations last night and spent most of the night chatting to a couple of people I'd never met before which is really unusual for me as I tend to lean towards familiarity. Actually the fact that I didn't cancel is a big thing too - lately I've been so gym obsessed that I've pulled out of social events on a Friday evening for fear of missing a Saturday morning training session, which is usually my biggest/toughest session of the week. When I was wallowing in self pity on the way home from my vacation last month I figured that I had to change that - I'm not an athlete, I need a life outside of the gym, and Friday's are generally my only chance for a night out... Progress!

Real people and socializing are good medicine, too. This is my favejmcbn post to date.

You load sixteen tons, what do you get Another day older and deeper in debt I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal And the straw boss said "Well, a-bless my soul" Would you believe I didn't go to the gym this morning and nobody died?
