anna08
Top o' the morning to you all! Sweated off a few with the heat index above 100 at the swim meet last night. Got home and so nicely was not exhausted - more energy is definitely coming through. Today there is a break in the heat and humidity so my hound and I are planning on battling the weeds today. She doesn't eat the critters either Higs. Just likes to play with them, and then gets sad when they die. I do love thatshe rids the yard of moles before they get any damage done. Moles can have really beautiful fur. I've had some Cruella moments thinking I could make something out of their little pelts before tossing them in the trash. Yikes, I digress. Cooking question for all - I just made homemade Paleo mayo using NomNom's recipe which calls for macadamia nut oil. It tastes horrible. New bottle of oil so not rancid. What kind of oil do you all use? Jess - the only thing that stands out to me is that you don't appear to have any veggies on your menu. Could you pack some peeled carrots or other raw veggies? As hard as it is sometimes to get them in, I think if you are only getting fat, protein and fruit you might not feel as well as you could. Have an awesome hike! anna08
CC - Being a gardener I kinda like that green mayo. I'm going to try and post a picture of my garden harvest from a couple of days ago - big white things are called 'Dragons' Egg' cucumbers. They are full of seeds but very mild in flavor. Good for flavoring water.
anna08
Oops that's really tiny! Fit for a mole, altho' I'm guessing they like the things that grow under the soil. There's chard, zucchini, cucumbers and green beanies in there. Ahhh, summer.

higs
Update from farm town: we're having a major power outage so unless we get power back soon, I'll be eating a can of sardines for dinner! I came home with a bunch of frozen fancy meat and was going to peruse recipes this eve. Now I'm worried it won't stay frozen! Might hafta dig a fire pit in the yard and roast some of the moles. Either that or figure out how to cook ground goat meat on the grill.... Are parsnips grill-able?

Deb.
And in this one I will say that everyone continues to do an awesome job. I have had an ok day today, looking forward to duck tomorrow! After finishing my 40 day yoga challenge and slacking off completely, I have to say I feel noticeably not-quite-as-good. So, that's interesting. And will hopefully push me back to the mat asap. theheywhohaa
HIdiddly ho neighborinos, Woke up from an odd dream this morning wherein I had flown to Australia (think its all this talk of kangaroo and possum, its got my belly considering new protein possibilities) and because I hadn't slept on the flight and was overtired, I accidentally ate a bar of nasty chocolate. Even in the dream I was thinking "this is so gross, why did I used to love it?". I also realised my mistake, but my dream self was unfussed about the prospect of a restart. Not only did I not wake up guilty, I woke up feeling more committed than I was when I went to sleep. My OH said this morning that I looked like I was really having fun with this, and he's so right. What an awesome challenge, it re-mo's the mojo and retunes the imagination. Sweet as. Yesterday was an odd day, I felt very ...restless, couldn't get in tune with the doing of things I could be doing, instead I kept blue skying about underwater waterskiing (its a thing, they pull you using a boomerang looking thing that you hold on to, the boat goes very slowly, and you 'fly' through the water...now you all want to do it too, dontcha?) Dave, you said a mouthful, I will follow the leader over to the new dirty 30 and march my butt in time with any jody you call, because you got me believing, my friend. Higs, please adopt me as a (slightly) younger sibling. I want to hang out with your animals and feel the envy of your garden. And BTW, apart from writing, working with books is all I have ever wanted to do. (Well, I wouldn't say no to being a TV detective, because they apparently get paid waaaaaay more than the regular kind and always have fascinating cases they can solve within a short framework to everybody's satisfaction). I laughed myself silly about your stomach gurgle at dinner the other night with your sister and her bf, I won't go into any detail, but the things my stomach does in the morning- luckily before anybody else is about- would put hairs on the chest. Or remove them. Whichever would be more disturbing. I can hardly believe we are now less than a week from completing this primary part of the whole 30, I've been thinking seriously about reintro, from lurking on other forums I see that many people go a little nuts on day 31 and regret it quickly if not immediately. Today I am going over to my Mom's to do some garden work for her and maintain a stony silence regarding anything health-related (loggerheads aren't just turtles, its where me and mom are at with this food thang, apparently I am going to get sick from eating pork now, because pigs eat slops. Obviously a natural progression. Cakes=harmless fun, pork=death) After that I am going to draft a reintro plan that I hope to follow. It'll be a relief to know that everybody else is moving on too, we can share our outre observations into the wild blue yonder... Kisses from this Mrs, Rose
Laurie
I really needed a smile and just got one from reading all of your posts. Rose, like everyone has said, your writing skills are incredible. I wish I had a fraction of the gift that you have. Dave - your humor is wonderful. Thank you to everyone for the ongoing support and for just being you - each and every one of you. I am sorry for posting so much about my boyfriend's situation. I think it is somewhat helpful for me to "talk" about it. We are having a bad night. He can't sleep even after taking medication for anxiety. I know he is not feeling physically well and is scheduled to have a transfusion in the morning. He is emotionally overwhelmed - there is so much to take care of before transplant - disability, financial, legal, home cleanliness, etc. My boyfriend is anxious about the unknown - will he make it, how will he respond to the whole process, what will life be like afterwards. He does not live with me (he has a child - she is with him sometimes) but he does spend a good amount of time at my apartment. To some extent, our relationship is affected by his illness. I know that's normal but it is difficult. He often tells me that I don't understand what he is going through. That is true, I am not in his shoes but I am by his side and I try to do whatever I can to make his life easier. I'm feeling sad so I must figure out a way to help myself. I have a therapy session this afternoon so maybe that will be helpful. I am going to call the organization Be The Match and talk with one of their social workers/representatives for additional guidance/support. To the doctors, nurses and anyone who knows a person who has undergone a transplant, if you have any advise/words of wisdom, I am all ears. Again, I apologize for posting so much on this subject. Sending love and well wishes to the 6/9ers.
theheywhohaa
Dearest Laurie, Nobody knows what anybody else is going through ever. We can only empathise with other people's experience in life, and you do that so well. Fear is a terrible burden, its a great weight for both of you I do not doubt, and while I have no idea what it feels like to be you or your boyfriend right now, your love for him comes across very clearly. 12 step programs have a lot of useful coping strategies for difficult life situations, and one that may prove suitable for you right now is that ole day at a time. You can only deal with the many items on his pre-transplant list in a one-at-a-time kinda way. One small change creates so many ripples. I hope you have a better day today and an even better one tomorrow sweetheart. We're rooting for you and your boyfriend too. Rose
cara123
Evening all. So many great recipes and ideas for moving forward, a huge thanks to all. Did a spin class followed by a quick bout on the treadmill tonight and blow me down things may be improving. Kids are having a sleepover tonight so the test will be a morning run before work . Yay Rose, hope you made it down to Phillip Island on your quick Aussie trip ;-). No kangaroos on my island but lots of wallabys ( a small version of a kangaroo), plenty of road kill too so maybe we could adapt one of Deb's recipes. Thanks for the laugh. Laurie do not be sorry for posting how you are feeling and what you are experience, I'm sure we are all thinking of you and sending our thoughts and wishes to you and your partner. While your boyfriend may tell you that you don't understand what he is going through the reverse also is true, you are going through so much as well. Hugs to you. Okay phones ringing will be back latter.
