MidModJenn
Hey W30-ers! I'm on Day 5 and feeling really good about the program so far. One thing I'd love to know, for those days when I may be struggling -- what do you tell yourself to keep yourself staying on track? Do you have a mantra for your W30 journey? In week1, my mantra so far has been something that I heard many years ago and has stuck with me: "it's better to prepare and prevent, than repair and repent". I'm definitely one of those people who risks falling off the wagon if I try to make a decision in the heat (or hunger) of the moment in a challenging situation... so making this one my mantra has encouraged me to look ahead and be prepared for what's coming. Administrators ladyshanny Posted June 23, 2016 Administrators Share Posted June 23, 2016 I'm a fan of "It's not easier tomorrow" meaning no sense quitting because it's hard today and thinking it'll be easier if you start/do it tomorrow because no matter what there will be discomfort and an adjustment period. I used this when I started running, when I quit smoking and when I did Whole30. Also I often told myself not to quit/give in because then, eventually when I started again, I'd just have to go through the whole crappy first part again. kirkor
"You can't eat it if you don't buy it" is one I've long used to handle those little inner debates in the grocery store.
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted June 23, 2016 Moderators Share Posted June 23, 2016 A new one I just found is 'Seek out not what brings you pleasure but what brings you sustained joy' I love it and not just for food but for life. I also like, from my sister LadyShanny, 'You are worth more than a XX' and then fill in XX with donut, ice cream, bagel etc...
newwhole30er
My mantra is my avatar- A year from now, you will wish you had started today. This got me back on track when I was veering too far off track... (A year from now, you will also wish you had just stuck it out today!)
Mistyfire
I know this may not be as kind as what has been previously posted. I quit smoking over 15 years ago and visited a support board. One of the times I liked smoking was while driving. A fellow quitter described what it was like sitting at a stop light and seeing another driver next to her puffing away. Instead of envying the other driver and wishing she could have one, her response as she sat at the light with no cigarette was "you wish you were me". I think that sometimes in the grocery store when I look at carts with the processed foods I used to eat and mine filled with the non-processed basics of fresh foods. It's not so much that I'm better than anyone else. More it's that the carts of others remind me that I have choices and that I'm not suffering because of them. I like this one because of how many times I have looked at someone who is well established with a habit that I would like to have and thought "I wish I was like that." I see how it could be really empowering to remind yourself that you are setting a good example by sticking to building your new, healthy habit! Plus, you're working hard toward that goal so you deserve to feel proud of that!
Seafarer
"Sticking with it is easier than starting over." "Don't wait until you have achieved your goal to be proud of yourself. Be proud of every single step you take towards achieving that goal." "Health is 100% mental. Your body won't go where your mind doesn't push it." "It's easier to wake up early in the morning & work out, than to wake up, look in the mirror, and not like what you see," "Don't quit. You're already in pain. Go on & get a reward from it." andreap26
"You already know what giving up feels like. Don't you want to see what happens if you don't give up?" "It may suck not being able to eat your favorite foods, but it sucks even more to be stuck in an unhappy body." "If you want something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done." "Junk food you've craved for an hour or the body you've craved for a lifetime?" I'm keeping a Whole 30 Journey Journal, which includes an inspirational quote like the ones above for each day. So far, they've really helped keep me focused!
firestorm531
One day at a time, one meal at a time. Now doesn't that (strawberry, etc) taste better than (junk)? Yep. You've done harder things, just keep putting one foot in front of the other. THIS is how you're going to heal the damage. Lots of internal dialog going on with me LOL
Suzysue
"I want to play too..." I was at a work event and did not participate because of my weight, so evey time I want something I shouldn't have I remember sitting and watching the fun.
